Both guests and Hosts can decline trip change requests. If you decline, the proposed changes don't take effect, and the existing reservation details remain as is. There are no penalties for declining, but if you're a Host, there are a few issues to consider when responding to a trip change request from a guest.

Wondering if you're allowed to say no to proposed changes for a confirmed reservation? The answer is yes! Both guests and Hosts can decline trip change requests.

First and foremost, be polite! Taking the time to craft a nice message is worth it. Thank the potential Airbnb guest for their inquiry and apologize for not having the property available at their requested time. If you feel that you need to give a reason for your refusal, do so, but keep it short and professional.

Open your message thread with your guest and find Respond to request. If you agree to the changes, they'll be applied automatically, and your guest will be charged or refunded if necessary. Things to know: There are no penalties for declining a request.

The Airbnb Strict cancellation policy allows guests to receive a full refund if they cancel within 48 hours of booking and at least 14 days before a listing's check-in time. In the event of a cancellation within 48 hours, the guest is only entitled to 50% refund, regardless of how far out the check-in date is.

Cancellation fee

The amount depends on when you accepted the reservation and how soon before check-in you canceled it: More than 7 days before check-in, $50 will be deducted from your next payout. Less than 7 days before check-in, $100 will be deducted from your next payout.

Declining an inquiry signals to the guest that their needs aren't a good fit for your space and encourages them to request another listing. But none of these actions directly affect your acceptance rate. If you pre-approve an inquiry and the guest books your space, that counts as an acceptance.

You'll have 24 hours to respond. If you pay the full amount, the request will be closed. If you pay a partial amount, decline the request, or ignore the request, your Host may involve Airbnb or our insurer as a next step.

During or after your trip

Submit a change request in Trips—if your Host accepts, your reservation will be updated and you'll be charged or refunded as necessary. However, if you want to stay longer but your reservation has already ended, you'll need to submit a new reservation request to your Host.
