July 13 (Reuters) - Berkshire Hathaway Inc (BRKa. N), run by billionaire Warren Buffett, said it has this week purchased another 4.3 million shares of Occidental Petroleum Corp (OXY. N), giving it a 19.2% stake in the oil company.
Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway now controls nearly 20% of Occidental Petroleum's stock after picking up another $250 million worth of shares of the oil producer this week.
Buffett's company received FERC approval to buy up to 50 percent of Occidental Petroleum's stock.
Exxon's shares are not overvalued when compared to the market as a whole, especially tech stocks.
Berkshire seems headed toward a 20% stake in Occidental that would allow it to include a proportionate share of the energy company's earnings in its financial results rather than just dividends received. That could boost Berkshire's earnings by about $2 billion annually.

Chevron stock has formed a 182.50 buy point in a cup base. The stock jumped over 13% the week of July 29 as shares retook the 50-day moving average and are well on their way to the buy point.
A crude but effective metric
So if the supply side favors the bulls and the demand side favors the bears, should investors buy oil stocks now? The answer is yes, a moderate allocation is fine because reasonably valued businesses have all-season appeal.
Is oil a good stock investment? Oil stocks are a good investment in the near term due to elevated demand and uncertain macroeconomic factors.
On the surface, it looks like a golden age for oil companies. Oil is up over 60% in the second quarter against one year ago. Oil company profits are through the roof, expected to increase 142% this year alone.
Chevron's dividend growth, in fact, has been much stronger than ExxonMobil's in recent years, which speaks volumes about the company's financial fortitude. That's just one of the reasons why I'd pick Chevron over ExxonMobil.
Luckily for Exxon, oil prices kept rising, gaining more than 50% in 2021. The company also cut costs in several areas, and reduced its expectations for capital spending through 2027. The result is that Exxon was able to raise its dividend last year, keeping it on the list of Dividend Aristocrats.
In summary, Chevron has consistently higher cash flow margin and due to its currently at par with that of XOM level of capital expenditure to sales, it generates higher free cash flow.
