The One Kitchen Investment This Nutritionist Thinks You Should Make (1)

As a nutritionist, the question I get asked the most, shockingly, has nothing to do with what to eat and everything to do with my favorite appliance. People want to know what they should invest in to help them eat better and live an overall healthier lifestyle each day. And for the last 10 years, my answer has been the same: a Vitamix!

Yes, I’m one of those people who’s having a slight love affair with their Vitamix (don’t worry, I’m pretty sure it hearts me back!). My Vitamix has helped me consume more fruits, vegetables, and leafy greens each day (think: smoothies, homemade soups, sauces, and more!) because it makes everything so fast, easy, and enjoyable.

Why I Recommend a Vitamix

The main reasons I recommend a Vitamix? Because of its unmatched quality, long-term warranty, beautiful design, and strong reputation. And because of all the healthy recipes you can make in it!

And time and time again, most everyone I talk with who hesitates to buy a Vitamix and finally gives in tells me the same thing: “I can’t believe I waited so long to buy one of these!”

A Vitamix doesn’t just blend things; it pulverizes them. It purées and chops, and makes nut milks, smoothies, homemade nice cream, and even soup … in absolute seconds!

I’ve owned at least five different Vitamix models in the last 10 years — and not because any of them gave out on me. I love Vitamix machines so much that when a new one comes out, I’ll often sell one on Craigslist and use the money to buy a new one for myself for, say, a birthday. I’ve never been disappointed in any of the ones I’ve owned yet, but I do have my favorites.

Here are the three Vitamix models I love the most out of all the ones I’ve owned.

1. Vitamix 5200, $400

This is the first Vitamix I ever got. Although the large, 64-ounce container it comes with doesn’t fit under most countertops, it is truly one of the best for making large amounts of smoothies, sauces, soups, and more. I owned this model for more than five years before upgrading and, frankly, I kind of miss it! I have many friends who’ve had theirs for more than 10 years and swear it still works like a champ.

2. Vitamix S-55 Personal Size, $400

When Vitamix released this personal-sized blender, I immediately started saving up my money (it took me two months!) so that I could buy it. I love that it comes with a single-serving cup to take on the go and a 40-ounce container, which fits under my cabinets.

I still own this model because it’s unique and I can’t seem to part with it. It’s not quite as powerful as the larger versions (just something to know before you buy it), but it’s still incredibly impressive. It’s my go-to when I want to make small batches of dressings, sauces, nut butters, nice creams, and non-dairy milks. It makes awesome smoothies, too.

3. Vitamix A3500 Ascent Series, $600

Finally, this is the fanciest Vitamix I’ve owned and one I thought about buying for a while before taking the plunge. This past December for my birthday, I finally decided to sell my larger Vitamix machine for the white version of this oh-so-pretty model and ended up only having to add money for the shipping, thanks to a holiday sales promotion. It was so worth it!

I love that this high-tech digital appliance has the option of the manual control knobs (which I prefer) and the option to use smaller containers, through Vitamix’s self-detect digital technology design. You just put the container on and the base can automatically determine what’s on there and adjust accordingly.

I highly recommend any of the Vitamix models to everyone I know because they never disappoint! I know they’re expensive, but I swear getting one is worth it. Unlike other brands, Vitamix specializes in one appliance only, so the pros there are experts. I know I’ll be a customer for life … and a healthier one at that!
