One of my biggest goals for 2018 was to begin growing my passive income. From the moment that I discovered passive income, I became more and more intrigued by the process of attracting passive income and growing it over time. While I do wish that I would have started the process at least a year ago, I don’t think that I was ready to commit to the process at that time. As a part of focusing on passive income growth, I decided to share the ins and outs of what I was doing to get my affiliate income to grow. My June 2018 blog income report is a reflection of a better understanding of implementing an effective affiliate marketing strategy that grows my earnings over time.

June 2018 Blog Income Report: $821.09 (Cash)

I’m really excited about this month’s total earnings which totals $881.09 if I add non-cash affiliates to the amount. Here is the thing about my income reports:

  • Cash in hand-I only report on cash that has actually arrived in my bank account. In fact, there is an affiliate that paid out in June that has been pending for 90 days because of the terms of that specific affiliate.
  • No Freelance Writing Income-Ok, I’m actually going to share some additional thoughts about freelance writing in today’s podcast episode. But, because I’m super focused on growing passive income, I’ve decided not to include freelance writing in these reports because I’m really focusing on affiliate income growth.
  • Partial Earnings-I don’t share partial earnings in my total earnings. Basically, if an affiliate payout threshold is $100, I won’t share that I have $78 pending. Because, in reality, you won’t have money pending until it hits the payout threshold.

The income breakdown is listed below. My ultimate goal is to have a core group of affiliates that I’ve actually USED, love and trust. I should also mention that I don’t have crazy page views and I’ve been able to grow my affiliate income steadily for the past couple of months. As a result of using a slightly different approach to affiliate marketing with a specific focus on leveraging my networks-I’m growing my income. As a result, I created a course.

Break Up With Clients

Is an affiliate marketing course created with the freelancer in mind. Many freelancers are forgetting to leverage natural opportunities within their business to connect with affiliate income.

Stop leaving your cash on the table.

Break Up With Clients is on sale until July 4th! Get 25% off with the following code: SAVE25.

Why take Break Up With Clients?

  • Monday office hours! Get a chance to speak with me once a week on Mondays and get support, encouragement and ideas on what you can do to connect with affiliate income.
  • Networking strategies-The heart of this course is how to ethically leverage your network to earn affiliate income.
  • Strategies-Learn specific strategies that are based on:
    • Timing
    • Tactics
    • Networking
  • Waiting for Crazy Page Views? Switch your focus. Focus on earning more money (creating results) vs. just focusing on page views. This is one of the biggest reasons I’m growing my affiliate income.

The Breakdown

  • $78.80-10KVA-This course ROCKS!! If you’re interested in becoming a Virtual Assistant, then this course created by Kayla Sloan is the course that I strongly suggest you take. She makes $10,000 a month on average and is just a great person to work with. She wants her VAs to succeed. And, I’ve heard and seen feedback from people who’ve hired VAs that she’s trained that they love those VAs.
  • $78.80-Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing-This course is THE course that I recommend for blogging focused affiliate marketing. Michelle will probably make $2 million dollars this year! She’s currently living her best life on a gorgeous boat in the Caribbean.
  • $420-Elite Blog Academy-You know what’s really surprising about this payout? I actually had to get re-certified to participate in the affiliate program. I originally purchased the course in 2014 and because of that EBA requires affiliates to be up to date with their current content. I had to watch around…8 hours of content refreshing my memory and experience with EBA. This was a brilliant thing for them to do. Also, I ended up getting re-certified the last possible day, about 3-4 weeks before they ran their yearly sale. If I had access to the EBA affiliate link a year prior to that, I would have earned A LOT more money. I cover this in my course Break Up With Clients.
  • $56.38 IbottaOk, I’m obsessed with Ibotta. It’s a Colorado based savings app that helps users save money on groceries, alcohol, clothing, etc. I’ve had the opportunity to meet the CEO and his team several times and they’re awesome. I love Ibotta because it’s a simple way to save. If you’re new to the platform and redeem your first savings in a couple of weeks you’ll earn $10 towards your first payout. F.Y.I. the payout threshold is $20.
  • $50 SitegroundIt took me awhile to find a hosting platform that people really loved and that I felt comfortable sharing. Siteground is that company.
  • $97-Break Up with Clients-I didn’t do a crazy launch and I haven’t purchased FB ads, etc. to sell my course. Instead, I’m basically in the beta launch process. And, sharing it via word of mouth. Save 25% off with the code: SAVE25 until July 4th.
  • $40.11-Amazon AffiliatesA lot of people are annoyed with Amazon’s affiliate program and I totally understand why. If you’re one of those people, I would encourage you to rethink this for the following reason: 70% of holiday shoppers spent on Amazon in 2017.Start creating content NOW (in the summer) to amplify your earnings during late Fall.

Non-Cash Earnings: $60

  • $40 ThredUp-I love ThredUp and no longer actively share my affiliate link. I plan on buying baby clothes with this credit for my friend who is giving birth to a little boy this month. I love buying baby clothes for friends!
  • $20 AirBnB-It’s always great to receive AirBnB credits! I’m not traveling this year, but I am already planning next year’s shenanigans and am thrilled that I’ve begun to earn more AirBnB credits.

I split cash from non-cash affiliate earnings because…cash is king LOL!

Key Takeaways

  • LOW Pageviews-Like, painfully low right now. In fact, my Tailwind scheduling queue was empty for the past month. I haven’t focused on Pinterest, and I haven’t published a lot of content for the past 6-8 weeks.
  • Umm…My Email List-I only recently starting sending emails. Like a month ago. I’m now focusing on growing my list and feel a lot more comfortable sending out newsletters.
  • Area of Focus-I started to speaking with other friends in the personal finance space who were making great money…but, had crappy page views. They were focusing on helping people and leveraging opportunities to make money. That simple.
  • Building Consistency-Is the ultimate challenge. Once I figured what I needed to focus on I’ve been able to earn payouts each month.

Challenges for July

Summer (especially July) is challenging because most people slow down.

They are:

  • On vacation
  • Publishing less content
  • Not thinking about reading the type of content that I publish (and is optimized for monetization)

It’s likely that my passive income will drop and then start ticking up in September.

Opportunities in July

Currently, I’m working on my Fall editorial calendar and affiliate strategy. I’m building out blog content, projects, and opportunities for the next 6 months. This is the classic Ant and the Grasshopper strategy. This is the moment when I’m preparing for winter (specifically February which is always painful).

Here are the projects that I’m currently working on. One in particular will probably surprise you LOL!

  • Romance Novels-I’m publishing a series of 6 romance novels following 6 interconnected couples. NO, I will not share my pen name for that project. These books will be published via Amazon Kindle Direct. Self-publishing for the win! This is something that I’ve wanted to do for a long-time, but I was always traveling so I wasn’t able to take the time and right the books. It’s SOOOO fun!!! The first book should go live by Monday, July 9th. Any earnings would be paid out 2 months later. (passive income)
  • Personal Finance Book-I’m working on my pf book and the goal is to publish it on my birthday. That might be a bit ambitious. But, it should be published no later than the first week of August. (passive income)
  • Make Money Podcasting-A podcast monetization course. This course will go live on July 23rd (day before my birthday) and when Podcast Movement starts. (passive income)
  • Publishing an Additional Book/Guide on Amazon-I won’t mention what it is until it’s uploaded, but it should go live on Monday, July 16th. It’s already built out, I just need to reformat it and update some of the content. (passive income)
  • 8 Month Affiliate Strategy-There are certain affiliates that I love to share (like Elite Blog Academy) that are only on sale once a year. I’m working hard on connecting as many people with content that will help them. If they decide to purchase-they’ve connected with my affiliate link all year long versus a few weeks. (ACTIVE passive income)
  • Fall Events-I’m running a series of local events in Denver this Fall and I’m in the process of putting these together. (VERY active LOL). I used to produce 80ish events a year at my old job so 12 isn’t a big deal (6 social/6 panel and social)
  • Business Networking Accelerator Group Coaching Program-I miss working with people. But, I don’t miss working with 600 people. I love the idea of working with a small group of handpicked awesome people and helping them grow their networks. Want more information?(ACTIVE income)Check it out!

Taking a Year Off

From travel has been a really great decision for me as I gear up to really go all in on my debt repayment for the next 2 years. I’m really focused and finally getting things DONE. At this point it’s highly unlikely that I will attend FinCon but I still have a room reserved in the event that I change my mind. However, Denver Start Up Week is the same week so I haven’t decided (and-it’s pretty epic).

There is NO WAY that I would have had the mental clarity to create the amount of content that I’ve created if I were traveling like I have been in previous years.

  • My garden is growing! Last year I was really sad because my garden didn’t grow. It was basically dead. It’s hard to focus on something when you’re not around.
  • 7.5 pounds lost-I’m going to really focus this week. If I lose one more pound I will hit a milestone number that I haven’t been at in at least 6 years. My weight has really been bothering me for the past 3 years and thanks to the FitBit challenge I’m in, The group is really funny (they are FinCon peeps) and really competitive.
  • Money Mindset-I’ve spent a lot of time working on my Money Mindset, in particular, income growth. I’m also meeting with a personal finance coach who is amazing and has been the missing part of my money story.

Breaks are good to take.

Great numbers Michelle! Especially because you said you don’t get a lot of traffic. I’m sure there are a lot of us who just assume that has to be the case to earn affiliate income.

I say this to myself every time, but I really do love your income/goal reports. It’s so refreshing to watch someone growing steadily instead of getting wind of it once they are already making thousands and thousands a month from their blog. You’ll soon get there. And thanks so much for the reminder that it’s time to start my editorial calendar for the fall!

LOL! They are still relatively new. Things dropped considerably this summer (as I expected) but, I have a new income stream that will be showing up in the Fall that is hilarious.
