DURHAM, N.C. -- Luckily Hurricane Joaquin will dodge the East Coast, but rain is still in the forecast for this weekend. Here are some helpful tips that'll help you beat the rain and stay dry (well as dry as possible) in Wallace Wade Stadium, Koskinen Stadium and Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium.

Bring an umbrella but don't be that person. An umbrella to keep the rain off from your car to the stadium, but umbrellas may not be raised in the Wallace Wade seating bowl for the courtesy and safety of all fans. We do permit umbrellas inside the stadium and the may be raised on the concourse, just not in the seats.

Be careful which materials you wear. You probably know this already, but just in case … avoid suede (water will ruin it) and any leather that hasn't been treated with a protectant. Also avoid wearing denim and cotton since these fabrics tend to absorb and hold in moisture. A water-resistant, breathable rain jacket is highly, highly recommended.

Layer so you have options. We're anticipating a high in the 60s with rain and wind this weekend, so start with a base layer, add another for warmth, and a third to protect from rain/wind. You can also shed or add layers as needed.

Pack a poncho. Ponchos are great because they cover you as well as your bag/accessories. Just remember that ponchos are not the most breathable items so consult tip #3. Don't have a poncho? A large (unused) garbage bag with the hole in the top can also do the trick.

Wear water-resistant shoes. Almost nothing is worse than a full day with wet feet and socks. Sneakers are comfy but not generally water proof. Lean more towards boots and galoshes to help keep your feet dry.

A towel or two will be super helpful. You'll want a towel to dry off your seat (or possibly sit on). Microfiber towels are quite absorbent and especially handy for drying electronics and hair.

Use a clear plastic sandwich bag to protect your phone. You can still use your smartphone through the plastic without having to worry about water damage. Just keep an eye on condensation inside the bag.

Hats are your friend. Wearing a hat will also help to keep your head dry. Bonus points for fans with Duke hats. Don't have one? Be sure to tweet a picture of you and your seat number to @Duke_ATHLETICS for a chance to win one!

Use plastic grocery bags. Those extra plastic bags everyone has lying around can actually come in handy. Wrap extra layers in the bags to keep them dry. You can also use them to put wet clothes/towels in upon returning to your car.

Introducing the personal pizza pouch. Here's a bonus tip for fans interested in taking their rain-proofing game to the next level. Perhaps not a necessity, but certainly worth considering if you plan to hit up our pizza vendors at concessions.
