Why Are Backpacks Not Allowed In Stadiums? (2024)

clear bag policy

Some stadiums do allow backpacks as long as they are clear and measure 12″ x 6″ x 12″ or less. Here is a list of stadiums that do allow clear backpacks.

The purpose of the stadium policies is to establish a standard bag size and type, for speedy processing of fans through security. Clear tote bags 12″ x 6″ x 12″ make it easier to spot weapons and contraband and tend to be smaller than most backpacks. If the venue you are attending does not allow clear backpacks we encourage you to use a standard clear bag 12″ x 6″ x 12″.

Most large stadiums and arenas have implemented clear bag policies that limit the size and types of bags of attendees. This aims to provide a safer environment for spectators; as well as faster entry into the events by allowing security personnel to quickly identify the contents of a each bag.

According to the current NFL Clear Bag Policy “Prohibited items include, but are not limited to: purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, diaper bags, cinch bags, non-approved seat cushions*, luggage of any kind, computer bags and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size.”

Not every sports venue and concert venue is as strict as the NFL. Some clear bag policies may differ slightly. Some facilities do allow clear backpacks as long as they meet certain size requirements.
