Why does skincare end up at TJ Maxx? ›

Discount stores such as TJ Maxx and Marshalls (which are owned by the same company, Marmaxx) negotiate high volume deals with manufacturers which enable them to buy products at a discount. They have much lower overhead costs and move products at a high volume, which enables them to make a profit at a lower price point.

That's because technically, T.J. Maxx and Ross are off-price retailers. That means they both buy overstock inventory at discounted prices from manufacturers and other department stores, which allows them to sell these products at a discount as well.

It's very much real. Stores like TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack etc often buy overstock, or lots with scratch-and-dent packaging where the boxes may be dinged in the corners but the product and containers are still good.
