Let me know if this sounds familiar…

  • You are ready to sell some of your animals, but the buyer is hesitant because you don’t have clear medical or breeding records.
  • You try to decide if this year’s flock/herd/etc is more productive than last year, but you have no way to know for sure.
  • You want to be taken seriously as a livestock owner, but you don’t have numbers to back up your productivity.

Livestock Record Keeping is more important than you may think…

It can be complicated to jot down all of the information that you need to keep track of all while giving the best care to your animals.

Livestock owners will often grab a pen and a notebook to scribble in, but there is no organization to this method.

What happens when you need to find specific information quickly, but you have to wade through a mess of mix and match records?

I know how frustrating this can be because I’ve been there, too.

When I first started raising animals, I thought that I could keep track of the details in my head…. Hahaha! Laughable, right?

Then I started writing in an all-purpose notebook…until I realized that I couldn’t find ANYTHING that I needed without spending 30 minutes of valuable time searching for it.

I FINALLY realized that there is a better way to keep homestead livestock records!

Imagine having all of your homestead livestock records organized and streamlined…

That would be wonderful, right? You would look & feel more professional, you could care for your animals better, and you wouldn’t have to waste time trying to find the numbers that you need when you need them.

What Are People Saying About These Homestead Livestock Records??

“Excellent resource for any homestead.”

I especially like that I can purchase once and print what I need, then print more later to add individual livestock binders to my shelf as we add animals to our small farm. It looks like it is going to work great for us!

Etsy Customer

“This planner is perfect for us as new homesteaders.”

All the trackers I need for any animal we might bring onto the homestead. We’re making use of the Rabbit and Chicken sections now. Knowing I already have what I need for when we add goats, pigs etc. makes it easier for me going forward.

I do not have an editable PDF, but I do have The Homestead Management Planner in spreadsheet version! Check that out here.

Who Am I to Talk to You About Homestead Livestock Records?

The Homestead Livestock Planner (46)

Hey, there! I’m Jess!

If you haven’t been around the Mama on the Homestead community long, then you may have some questions about my qualifications and credibility in the livestock management realm:

Questions like…

•Did she just throw all of this together based on quick Google searches?

•Does she actually have an idea about what she is talking about?

•Is she providing quality resources or simply fluff information?

To answer these questions, I’ll give you a little background about me.

I attended the University of Tennessee where I majored in Animal Science with a focus on Livestock Production and Management.

I graduated with my B.S. degree in 3 years with honors. As a student, I completed an internship with a large commercial sow unit.

Immediately after graduating, I started working for a local meat processor as the food quality & safety (HACCP) coordinator. I then moved on to become a stay-at-home mom and began my own homesteading journey raising pigs, goats, honeybees, chickens, ducks, cattle, and rabbits.

I would like to tell you that I had it all together from the beginning, but that would be a lie. I had a lot of knowledge about raising livestock, but it took years to learn how to truly manage the animals that I was raising.

When I started homesteading, I was a TERRIBLE record keeper.

I had no idea if I was making a profit from my animals, if we had consistent health issues, and I couldn’t remember where most of the animals had come from (a breeder, a sale, a friend??).

When I FINALLY took the time to dig deeper into the business and production side of homesteading, I realized that an organized record-keeping system would improve my operation significantly!

That’s when I created The Homestead Livestock Planner. I have updated and improved these record books over the years and I am so excited that I now get to share them with you!
