There are many gorgeous beaches on and around the Kohala coast. Some of the best include: Spencer Beach Park – calm waters and sandy beach that's good for kids. Hapuna Beach Park – very large golden sand beach good for body surfing, boogie boarding, long beach walks, and sunsets.

The Kohala (Gold) Coast is almost always sunny year-round and offers the best chance for dry weather, averaging just 0"-10" (0-25 cm) annually. Most of the accommodations here are higher-end resorts.

The Kona side of the island (roughly the western half) is the more tourist friendly side. It's sunny, dry, and where all of the best beaches are hence…all of the best resorts. At all budget levels, probably 90% of accommodations on the Big Island are on the Kona side.

The Weather in Kailua-Kona and the Kona district:

The Kona district is located on the leeward side of the Big Island, which means that weather here is in general excellent: sunny and dry.

The weather conditions can change drastically over the island in a matter of hours, but there is some consistency. The west side (Kona side) is called the 'dry side' of the island, and the east side (Hilo side) the 'wet side'.

Kalaoa is definitely one of the safest cities in Hawaii located on the Big Island. This one is loved by tourists, and it is the center of activity in the eastern part of the island. Dozens of beaches can be found on the city's coast, as well as an international airport, probably the main reason the city is so popular.

Hawaii's Big Island features a coastline of beach area where some of the clearest and cleanest waters can be found. If you define excellent weather as sunny and warm, then Oahu has your ideal weather conditions. Honolulu and Waikiki average around 80 degrees year-round with only 20 to 40 inches of rainfall. Along the Waianae coast, there is less rain, and temperatures can be a little higher.

The Big Island is cheaper than other Hawaiian islands due to its larger size, more affordable housing options, and lower population density. It's also sees far less job opportunities due to Oahu island being the state's major economic hub.

Both islands are beautiful and offer different experiences. Due to its smaller size, Maui's more accessible and easier to explore making it perfect for those who want to spend time on the beach and also be active snorkeling and hiking.

Hilo is the wettest city in America. The opposite of Kona, rain is more common in the morning than the afternoon. A clear and sunny Hilo morning is a rare treat. Puna is similar to Hilo and is very wet.

The warmest places in Hawaii – our conclusion

Big Island also hosts some of the other warmest places in Hawaii, in the form of the dry and dusty Kohala Coast in the north, where there's hardly a drop of rainfall throughout the year.

Mount Wai'ale'ale on the gorgeous island of Kaua'i is often referred to as the wettest spot on earth. While the more than 5,000-foot tall mountain that's often enshrouded in clouds does receive a tremendous amount of rainfall each year, it's more accurately “one of” the wettest spots on earth.
