ABOUT ‘THE MEANINGFUL MONEY HANDBOOK’

The Meaningful Money Handbook is written by Pete Matthew. Pete is a Chartered and Certified Financial Planner and Managing Director of Jackson’s Wealth Management in Penzance, Cornwall, UK. Since 2012 Pete has been sharing his passion and expertise for finance over on his podcast The MeaningfulMoney Podcast. The Meaningful Money Handbook is an extension of The MeaningfulMoney Podcast.

At the beginning of the book Pete writes that the book is for “ordinary people” and this is reflected in the contents of the book. As you can tell from the contents the book is broken down into three sections:

  1. Spend less than you earn
  2. Insure against disaster
  3. Invest wisely

Pete concentrates on two things throughout the book. He tells you “everything you need to know and everything you need to do”. The book doesn’t attempt to go into detail about everything, but the aspects of finance that Pete believes are the most important for the ordinary person.

FINAL THOUGHTS FROM CHARELLE

Early on in the book I thought here we go again – another book that is covering the budgeting, debt and savings. Luckily for me, I was reading this book as part of the Finimize Ladies Investing Book Club (Yes I’m part of a book club, as well as running my own – PropelHer’s Book Club), which meant I perceived and I’m so glad I did. I found Step 2 – Protect Against Disaster to be the best book I’ve read to date on explaining all the different types of insurance you can and should get. Pete does a great job at explaining all of the difference, and also sharing his thoughts on what you should prioritise if you can’t afford to buy all the various types of insurance. In addition, in Step 3 Pete continued to do a great job in trying to make investing, which can often seem quite complicated, as accessible as possible. By the end I was thoroughly impressed with Pete, his knowledge and his way of explaining.

WHO SHOULD READ THE MEANINGFUL MONEY HANDBOOK

Pete is from the UK and this is reflected in the book, as a result, I would recommend this to UK-based people who want to develop their personal finances knowledge and take the necessary action to move in the right direction in relation to money.

This book is great for anyone who would like clear action steps. Pete has made it very clear in the everything you need to do sections of the book what you should be doing that there is enough advice for anyone who is looking to get out of debt, build their savings, properly protect themselves and then start investing.
