My Top 3 Ways Writers Can Make Money (2024)

My Top 3 Ways Writers Can Make Money (2)

Start the journey, and you’ll know the things which many didn’t tell you. You need to take the first step. and this, no one will do for you.

I have already made an article before but there were a few more things that I didn’t add. There are so many ways that authors can make money. But in this article, I will be focusing on the top 3 that will give you money every month.

We have talked a lot about how authors can make money online. There have been so many articles written on it. Recently I also got to know about HubPages. I did hear about it before but never tried it out. Writers are making small micro-niche blogs on HubPages. The earnings opportunities it offers seem to be attractive too. But again, for now, let’s stick to the ones I tried myself.

Before we go into this in detail, I would like you to know that it’s long-term work. You won’t see money anytime soon but yes you will see some which will inspire you to work more.

First, your dashboard will show you $1.

$1 will become $10.

$10 will become $100 and so on.

We all have earned this way only.

Seeing $1 inspires us. We want to see if we could do this full-time or not.

But in reality, it’s $100 that encourages us to work more.

I have been on so many platforms. $1 has always been easy, but it’s the first $100 that tells us whether we could do this full-time or not.

Once we reach it, then it’s in our hands whether to continue it or jump to the next shiny thing.

Be slow and consistent. You will see the result after months of hard work.

So what exact skills do you need to become a full-time writer?

Actually none. You will learn as you practice more and more on this or any other platforms.

Medium is my first choice. But there are many platforms like HubPages that you can prefer to upgrade your skills. So keep on working, that’s the only mantra to succeed in this world.

I have already used the below mentioned platforms. Some I use for this pen name, and two I use for my other niche. My other niche is Programming and I write it under my real name.

So without waiting let me reveal to you the platforms where you can start your writing journey -

  1. Amazon Kindle Unlimited — I have talked about this in detail before. But let me remind you that Amazon still is a game changer. Hazel Paradise’s books are not on Amazon anymore. I am trying to make exclusive content now on different websites (Patreon). But still, I remember that when I was on Amazon, I focused on my books. I was rarely doing the marketing stuff and that saved a lot of my energy. My second niche is still on Amazon and they are non-fiction (Programming) books only. I still recommend going with Amazon Kindle Select, and then after a few months, just branch out. With those millions of customers it has, it’s best for a new author to try it out first. Amazon does some of the work for you. I say “some”. It depends on your keyword research as well. If you are able to find the less competitive keywords, then book after book you will see sales coming in.
  2. Medium — I started my medium journey in 2022. I have been inconsistent but planning to stay consistent this year. I wish I knew about this platform before. I am still not in its Partner’s Program but if you can enroll in it then good. This will add one more income stream. We already know all the money-making opportunities this platform offers. I have written about it in detail here.
  3. YouTube — If you can have a YouTube channel with the same brand name as here then I would highly recommend it. I made a YouTube channel focusing on Python Programming and the last time I uploaded, was six months ago. Even now I receive views and subscribers. I don’t think this happens with any platform where we are receiving views for old content. I am planning to get back there.

So I should end here. This is already mentioned in previous articles. But I am making this article so that those who are new can start their journey. When we start out we often get confused with so many income streams that authors can make.

For all the above options, if you are thinking to do all three then -

  1. Make sure you keep the same brand name. This is necessary for brand marketing. This will help your audience to crossover. This will help them to follow you on their preferred platform.
  2. Try to make content yourself. AI won’t be able to do what you can do. Many and many artists are using it. I do understand that it’s getting difficult to stand out. But I would still recommend you to go without AI. People are always looking for a unique voice.
  3. Quality will always win but still, the quantity will help you to reach more audience. With each content you publish, the more audience you will reach. That’s how algorithms work on many platforms. New content is given first priority.
  4. Stay away from spamming any marketplace (Amazon KDP). We don’t know when the algorithm will change and your account will get a strike.
  5. Go slow and be consistent. It’s a long-term game. Many have seen results after one year of continuous hard work.

The possibilities are limitless.
