There are two options for suppressing the Form 1116 and Form 1116 AMT:

Option 1:

  1. Go toCredits>1116 - Foreign Tax Credit.
    • SelectSection 1 - Processing Options.
      • In Line 1 - Election to claim the foreign tax credit without filing Form 1116,checkmark this line to suppress the Form 1116.
      • In Line 5 - Suppress Form 1116 AMT,checkmark this line to suppress the Form 1116 AMT.
  2. Calculate the return.

Option 2:

  1. Go to Income/Deductions >Interest (or Dividends).
    • Select Section2 - Foreign Account information.
      • In Line5 -Form 1116 / 1116 AMT processingcode, enter theappropriate code:
        • Code 1: Elect to Claim Foreign Tax Credit without using Form 1116.
        • Code 2: Suppress Form 1116 AMT.
        • Code 3: Elect to Claim Foreign Tax Credit without using Form 1116 and Suppress Form 1116 AMT.
  2. Calculate the return.

Notes:

  • This election is only available to you if you meet all of the following conditions:
    • All of your foreign source gross income was “passive category income”(see instructions for definition)
    • All the income and any foreign taxes paid on it were reported to you on a qualified payee statement.
    • Your total creditable foreign taxes are not more than $300 ($600 for MFJ)
  • Additional limitations when you use this option: (see instructions for more details)
    • You cannot carry over to any other year any foreign tax taxes paid or accrued in a tax year to which the election applies.
    • You are still required to take into account the general rules for determining whether the tax is creditable.
    • You are still required to reduce the taxes available for credit by any amount you would have entered on line 12 of Form 1116.
  • There is also Processing codes for Form 1116/1116AMT that will suppress when there is input in the Cons1099:
    • Income > Consolidated 1099 > Section 5 > Line 5
