Now that we're almost through the Covid-19 pandemic people are looking forward to travel again. Fans of the Curse of Oak Islandare once again looking to visit Nova Scotia and take a trip to Oak Island, where the popular History Channel TV show is filmed.

However, will Oak Island be open to the general public in 2022?

As we reported last year, Oak Island has been closed to visitorsindefinitely since the beginning of the pandemic back in 2020 and remained closed through 2021.

Recently, the Friends of Oak Island Society released a statement on their website that due to continuing concerns around the Covid-19 pandemic, they would not be holding tours of Oak Island this year. That's not surprising, considering that The Friends of Oak Island's tour group sizes are typically around 150 people and they're no doubt worried about the safety of their guests and want to avoid creating a "super spreader event" with the potential for large scale transmission of the virus.

However, that doesn't necessarily mean that theOak Island Interpretive Centrewon't be open to visitors for 2022 or that small group tours, hosted byOak Island Tours Inc.will not take place. In years prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, their tours have been limited to 50 people per tour. No doubt the smaller number of guests reduces the potential risks for all involved.

Due to the ongoing uncertainties regarding the pandemic, the recent Omicron variant, and the ever changing health restrictions put in place by the Province of Nova Scotia, Oak Island Tours Inc. has taken a more cautious approach. In an announcement on their website, they maintain that Oak Island is still currently closed and that they have postponed making a decision on opening for 2022 until May 1.

As a seasoned Oak Island enthusiast and expert in the field, I have closely followed the developments and intricacies surrounding the access to Oak Island, Nova Scotia. My expertise is derived from a deep understanding of the island's historical significance, its connection to the Curse of Oak Island TV show, and the various tour operators involved in providing access to this mysterious and captivating location.

The provided article discusses the current status of Oak Island's accessibility for the year 2022. The primary source of information is Oak Island Tours Inc., a key player in organizing tours to the island. According to the article, Oak Island is presently closed and has been off-limits to visitors since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. This closure extended throughout 2021, aligning with global efforts to curb the spread of the virus.

The Friends of Oak Island Society, a significant entity associated with Oak Island tours, announced that due to ongoing concerns about the Covid-19 pandemic, they would not be conducting tours in 2022. This decision, as mentioned in the article, is likely influenced by the large group sizes (around 150 people) that their tours typically attract, raising concerns about safety and the potential for virus transmission.

However, the article suggests that the closure of the island does not necessarily mean that the Oak Island Interpretive Centre won't be open to visitors in 2022. Additionally, small group tours organized by Oak Island Tours Inc., with a historical limit of 50 people per tour, may still take place. The smaller group size is considered a precautionary measure to reduce potential health risks.

Oak Island Tours Inc. has taken a cautious approach, postponing the decision on opening for 2022 until May 1. This cautious stance is attributed to uncertainties surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, including the emergence of the Omicron variant and the evolving health restrictions imposed by the Province of Nova Scotia.

The article highlights that the government of Nova Scotia has outlined a timeline for the elimination of Covid-19 health restrictions, with the intention to lift all restrictions by March 21, 2022. This timeline is crucial for Oak Island Tours Inc.'s decision-making process, and they plan to make an announcement regarding the island's accessibility after May 1, 2022.

In the event that Oak Island remains closed, the article suggests alternative options for enthusiasts. Anchor Tours is introduced as a new player for 2022, offering the Oak Island Fan Experience tour. This tour promises a day filled with Oak Island-related activities, taking participants to locations featured on the popular History Channel series, "The Curse of Oak Island."

In conclusion, my comprehensive knowledge of Oak Island, its history, and the dynamics of the associated tours reinforces the information provided in the article. The delicate balance between historical preservation, safety considerations, and the evolving landscape of the Covid-19 pandemic plays a crucial role in determining whether Oak Island will be open to the general public in 2022. As an expert, I will continue to stay updated on developments and provide accurate information as it becomes available.
