Our response:

A Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) is an investment made for a limited term such as 6 months, 1 year, 2 years or up to 10 years. The term ends on the maturity date. Generally, GICs renew automatically unless you inform your institution prior to its renewal. If a GIC has expired a new GIC under new terms would need to be considered.
