Former 'Magnum, P.I.' star Tom Selleck's former home in Hawaii on the market for $4.4M - Pacific Business News (2024)

A Honolulu home with panoramic ocean views once owned by actor Tom Selleck is back on the market for $4.4 million, and the buyer of the three-bedroom Black Point house and cottage will get a bonus — an original caricature of the original “Magnum, P.I.” star drawn by the late Al Hirschfeld.

The house was originally built in 1929 and sits on a 4,874-square-foot lot that has views of the Pacific Ocean and Koko Head. Selleck rented the cottage at the property on Akulikuli Terrace during the “Magnum, P.I.” run from 1980 to 1988, then bought the house in 1993 for an undisclosed price.

Selleck lived at the house with his wife and daughter until he sold it in 2001 to a Japanese buyer for $2.48 million. The current owner bought the house in 2006 for $3.24 million.

This is the third time listing the Akulikuli Terrace property for Carl Smigielski of Sandwich Isles Realty, dba Portfolio Hawaii — Selleck was his client when he bought the home, as was the buyer who sold it to his current client.

The main house has two bedrooms, while the cottage has a bedroom with a small pool outside.

The house has a few remnants from Selleck’s time. There is a yacht’s mast on the deck that was a gift to the actor from a friend who won the TransPacific Yacht Race one year. Back in the ‘80s Selleck had also installed a movie projector inside a closet in the cottage and put a hole in the wall so it could project on to a large movie screen where he and his Magnum co-stars would watch the dailies from the day’s shoot. The projector is no longer there — the buyer who bought the house from Selleck in 2001 sold it.

Smigielski said the house also has a 10-foot-by-eight-foot solid concrete room and a bank vault door that would make a good wine cellar.

Meanwhile, the oceanfront property in Waimanalo that served as Selleck’s character’s home on “Magnum, P.I.” was torn down to make way for three homes currently under construction on the site. Waimanalo Paradise LLC, a company created by Martin Nesbitt, Obama Foundation board president and close friend of former President Barack Obama, paid $8.7 million to buy the three-acre property in 2015.

And CBS said last month that it picked up the reboot of “Magnum P.I.” for a third season, and moved it to the former “Hawaii Five-0” slot on Friday nights, between “MacGyver” and “Blue Bloods” — which stars Tom Selleck. "Hawaii Five-0" recently ended its 10-season run.
