Does customer’s signature for title need to exactly match what is on title/POA including middle initials or Jr. Sr etc. and be notarized? | No, first, last name, and Jr. or Sr. is all that is required. |
Do titles require notary? | No. However, all documents without a perjury statement require notary. |
If lien holder releases interest on the title, does it need to be notarized? | No, but needs to be completed fully – printed name, signature, and date stamp are needed. |
Does state allow electronic signatures? | Yes, Florida will allow electronic signatures on odometer disclosure/power of attorney forms related to total loss transactions for hurricane Dorian. The state has granted an exception to allow providers who have not yet submitted a business plan/been approved by the state to participate. This is allowed when submitted by or on behalf of an insurance company, as long as the electronic system used provides a Level 2 assurance as prescribed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the application is requesting a Certificate of Destruction. |
If lien holder provides a lien release letter, does it need to be notarized? | No, but if the lienholder is out of state it must be an original on company letterhead. If lienholder is a Florida lienholder it must be on Florida DMV Lien Release form (HSMV 82260). |
Can an out of state or out of country title be completed for salvage? | Yes, for out of state titles. Out of country titles must be sold on a Certificate of Destruction (parts only). |
What is required for salvage branding? | -If the vehicle has been declared a total loss by an insurance company a branded title must be obtained. Except for Substantially intact recovered thefts -The State of Florida requires a Certificates of Destruction (parts only) be obtained for vehicles meeting ALL of the following criteria: -ACV greater than or equal to $7,500, late model vehicles (7 years or newer), percentage of damage is greater than or equal to 90 percent. OR Certificates of Destruction will be issued upon request of the insurance company. There is no FLOOD brand for Certificates of Destruction. -Vehicles not meeting all of the above criteria can be branded with a Rebuildable title. Rebuildable titles do have FLOOD branding available. -Because a Certificates of Destruction (parts only) can be obtained upon request of the insurance company, provider specific branding requests may apply. Please contact the Title Center for details regarding any provider specific branding requests in place. |
Is a perjury statement required on all documents? | Yes, unless notarized. |
Is the odometer required for all vehicles? | No. Vehicles older than 10 years will be exempt. |
Is a notice of transfer needed from owner? | No. |
Can a POA be used to complete another POA to be able to obtain proper documents? | No. |

What are disposal options for state if title work is not obtained? | -Alternate Means is available for lien free vehicles titled in FL. -Paper titles with a lien can also use the alternate mean process |
Can IAA process a duplicate on behalf of the owner? | Yes. We need a secure POA to apply for a duplicate title and a branded title in the insurance company's name. If we are applying for a duplicate title in the owner’s name only not transferring, we need a limited POA and a copy of the owner’s driver’s license. |
