Fidelity funds unavailable for withdrawal

Postby pmorgan2020 »

Hello
It’s been over a week since I transferred my funds to Fidelity
and I still see funds available to withdraw is still $0. Is this normal?I tried to reach out the CS few times and they mentioned we are at the mercy of clearance and that I could use the funds to trade but it can take longer to actually withdraw. I also noticed the CS is not readily available unlike Chase.Anyone had similar experience in the past? I am new to fidelity.Appreciate your inputs.

Thanks

Yes. Not uncommon. When you transfer dollars, it could take longer. Not sure why.

I never transfer money that I have an immediate need to use.

Extremely normal. Not just Fidelity. Practically every financial institution will put a hold on withdrawals of new funds for a while. How long depends on the funds amount, how it was transferred, and how long you've been a customer.

Lesson: don't tie up money in account transfers you'll need within the next month or so.

Yes, it is common. If your account is new first few transfers will not be available for withdrawal for a week.
If you push money to Fidelity, the hold period is shorter.

Almost any financial institution will put a hold on funds transferred into a new account especially for withdrawal and transfer back out. Fidelity will let you trade but not withdraw them because they still have some control over the securities you buy.

I haven’t had any issues with contacting them but I think that can be very dependent on day of week and time of day. I have found that their chat function is fairly easy to use. They ought to be able to tell you how much longer they will hold the funds since you are now at a week.

BTW, you can check when you funds would be available for withdrawal.
You either go to
- Accounts/Portfolio/Positions
- Accounts/Portfolio/Balances
- Accounts/Cash Management/Accounts

You will see Total Account Value, Cash Available to Trade, Cash Available to Withdraw and settlement or end of hold date.
