Entry 2. New Age Hunting & Gathering: Diary of a “Discount Shopaholic”. (2024)

As a “Discount Shopaholic”, it is my duty to share information on good deals so hopefully, you can start buying fab items for a lower price too. Looking good and feeling confident in what you wear can absolutely be done on a budget. Two of my favorite stores to shop at for clothing areMarshall’s and TJMaxx. They are not “discount” stores but are considered “off-price” stores. They build relationships with clothing brand manufactures and negotiate an agreement to purchase goods at an awesome price. These savings are then passed down to all us beautiful shopaholics! The clothes available are in-season name brand clothes! There may be a few stragglers from last season in the mix but you can easily identify them because they will include an additional description on the tag that says “Last Season”. I just love going to one place and having access to so many different brands and of course I love the prices. Each item will include a Marshall’s or TJMaxx store price tag and a “compare to” price tag. Most items will also include the original manufacturer brand price tag showing the original suggested retail price. If you have never shopped at a Marshall’s or TJMaxx….then shame on you! Here are some tips to help make your shopping trip worth while:

1. Keep an eye out for colored tags. If you see a purple tag (Marshall’s) or a blue tag (TJMaxx) it means this is going to be the best price you will find this item. Purple tags at Marshall’s denotes a designer brand and a blue tag at TJMaxx signifies a higher-end designer label. You better grab these while you can! The best is when you can find a blue or purple tag in the Clearance section….even better! Clearance items will have a red sticker over the already great price. A yellow sticker over a series of red stickers shows an even further reduction which I believe is the final markdown. It will not be reduced any further than the yellow sticker. If you happen across a pink tag, it is a brand that is not exactly “designer” but is a higher quality and nicer than the normal everyday lower end brands and includes fashionable brands such as BCBG, Vince Camuto, etc. A white tag represents those normal everyday brands.

2. Visit often. Both stores receive over 10,000+ new items each week so go regularly and if you see an item you like, you should go ahead and purchase it. Chances are it will not be there the next day. (You can always return it if you change your mind!)

Below are some recent great deals I snatched up.

I love this yellow-lime shirt. I immediately thought it would be a fun pop of color to add to my workout wardrobe. For $7, who cares if I get it all sweaty. It will go great with my coral colored sports bra, look great over a swimsuit, or be perfectly casual with shorts or skinnies! I saved $42 off the original price!

75% off a pair of dark teal green skinny jeans!

You can never have too many skinny jeans. I don’t really seek out Buffalo David Bitton brand denim but these were a beautiful color and felt like a soft denim. They fit great and the deal was good. Dark teal goes with so many colors and looks fab with heels or boots! I use my dark teal skinnies as a neutral pant these days. LOVE them! I saved $79 off the original price of $119!

78% off a Jade colored Kenneth Cole tank.

This Kenneth Cole tank is trimmed in faux leather and has a zipper detail down the back. It looks awesome to wear with skinnies all by itself or to pair an open slouchy black cardigan with. I wear it both ways. It looks great with heels or with boots! You could even tuck this one into a pencil skirt for the office. I can’t wait to try it this spring/summer with cute shorts and heels! LOVE! I paid $15 which is a 78% off and a $54.50 savings!

Head out and treasure hunt for those blue, purple, and pink tags! Save money and look fab at the same time!
