Are you 18 or older and do you want to become a Dutch citizen? Then you are not allowed to have dual nationality after your naturalisation. This means that under Dutch law you must renounce your other nationality or nationalities. However, there are exceptions.Find out when it is not necessary to renounce your nationality.
Dutch citizen and adopting another nationality
You are not allowed to have dual nationality if you are Dutch and adopt another nationality. Then you will automatically lose your Dutch nationality. It does not matter whether you live in the Netherlands or abroad. This is provided by Dutch law. However, there are exceptions. Find out when you will not lose your Dutch nationality.
Not possible to apply for dual nationality
You cannot apply for dual nationality. Someone can, however, automatically get dual nationality, for example by birth. Read about dual nationality by birth(only available in Dutch) on the website of the Dutch government.
