Thanks to a resurgence in popularity for the RPG, CD Projekt is riding high.
CD Projekt Group has released its latest earnings report, detailing how the Polish company behind The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 is performing from a business perspective, and times are good.
Thanks in part to a rally around Cyberpunk 2077 that saw the game reach more than 1 million daily players again, the company had its best third quarter ever dating back to the company's founding in the '90s.

For the quarter that ended on September 30, the company brought in 245.5 million PLN ($54.2 million) in revenue and a profit of 98.7 million PLN ($21.8 million). According to VGC, chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz said Cyberpunk 2077's "strong sales" drove the uptick in revenue to new heights for the company.
Cyberpunk 2077's massive 1.6 Edgerunners update that launched in September, along with ongoing discounts on the RPG, helped drive sales even further. The animated Netflix series Cyberpunk Edgerunners also debuted in September and surely helped drive interest to the game.
Cyberpunk 2077 had a rough launch in December 2020 but it has rebounded significantly since then, going on to sell more than 20 million copies.

The total revenue of Cyberpunk 2077 since its 2020 release, including Phantom Liberty sales, has surpassed 3 billion PLN ($752 million), which actually shows how profitable the game and its DLC turned out to be.
Game sales accounted for nearly 85% of the total. Cyberpunk 2077 generated PLN 852 million ($213.6 million) in 2023, up 81.5% from 2022 — driven by the launch of the Phantom Liberty expansion. The Witcher 1-3 (+ expansions) brought in PLN 158.7 million ($39.8 million), down 23.7% year-over-year.
Cyberpunk 2077 cost more than $400 million to make and market, making it likely the most expensive video game (actually released) so far. The game's Polish developer, CD Projekt Red (CDPR), kept spending big after launch, and it seems like it has paid off—because it had to.
In October, sales of “Cyberpunk 2077” crossed 25 million units, according to CD Projekt. Investment bank Stifel estimates that amount equates to roughly $770 million, making it a solid hit and on par with first-year unit sales of the most popular games from Activision Blizzard's Call of Duty franchise.
A drop in the bucket. Losses of over $51 million due to Cyberpunk's botched launch might sound significant. But that number has to be taken against the rest of the company's record-shattering performance last year.
Without question, the best way to earn money quickly in Cyberpunk, including Phantom Liberty, is to collect and sell every weapon you see. All of them.
V is now officially born on October 12th 2053 making them 23-24 now. 27 felt like the perfect age for V, in my head because of the infamous '27 club' musicians who died at age 27 for various reasons; the whole Silverhand, rocker life style kind of supports it.
With the variety of endings in Cyberpunk 2077 it's unlikely the sequel will follow V and their relationships again, although some characters could have small cameos depending on where and when Project Orion is set.
That's probably because the developers behind the expansion spent over $60 million on developing Phantom Liberty and $21 million on marketing it, bringing the total cost of producing the DLC to about half of what it cost to develop the entire Cyberpunk 2077 base game.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is an all-new spy-thriller adventure story for Cyberpunk 2077. The expansion costs $30 and requires ownership of the base game. Per CD Projekt's earnings report, Cyberpunk 2077 revenues were up 18% year-over-year in 2022, with 94% of the units sold being digital. That's a pretty unusual figure in video games, which typically release to enormous unit sales and then see a steady but consistent drop over time.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty has sold over 5 million units as of December 31, 2023. The DLC debuted to excellent reviews in late September, reaching 3 million sales during its launch week.
Parent company CD Projekt shared on Thursday that Cyberpunk 2077 has reached over 25 million copies sold, up from 18 million copies sold back in April 2022. Additionally, the company shared that the Phantom Liberty expansion has already hit 3 million copies sold.
This shows that digital sales of the game are increasing and account for 81.9% of CD Projekt Red's total revenue. The game generated over $300 million in revenue in 2023. This was made possible thanks to the game's new updates, DLCs and expansion packs.
