The iPhone 15 series official launch is months away, but we are getting new information through leaks almost every week. Similar to last year's lineup, the new series will likely include four models - the vanilla iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max (or Ultra). However, like every year, new iPhones mean some old iPhones will be discounted. A new report by Tom's Guide suggests that Apple might discontinue at least four phones following the launch.
Currently, Apple officially sells the iPhone 14 series, iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 12, and iPhone SE (2022). The new report suggests that Apple might scrap iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 12, and iPhone 13 mini after the iPhone 15 series launch. That leaves us with iPhone 13, iPhone SE (2022), iPhone 14, and iPhone 14 Plus.
The speculation looks mostly accurate since Apple adopted a similar strategy following the launch of the iPhone 14 series last year. The company ditched the old-gen Pro models to boost the sales of new ones. It also ditched iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 mini.
Otherwise, the older existing models would receive a price cut of up to $100. In India, Apple may consider slashing the price by Rs 10,000. Here is how iPhones (for the base 128GB storage) are currently priced:
-iPhone 14: Rs 79,900
-iPhone 14 Plus: Rs 89,900
-iPhone 14 Pro: Rs 1,29,900
-iPhone SE: Rs 49,900
-iPhone 13: Rs 69,900
-iPhone 12: Rs 59,900 (64GB)
Meanwhile, Apple is expected to launch its first mixed-reality headset at the upcoming WWDC 2023 event on June 5. According to Apple analyst and Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple will introduce the device at WWDC 2023, though the actual sale may take place at the end of the year. Gurman has also added that the upcoming WWDC would see one of its biggest launches. Apple will reportedly showcase new Macs with its proprietary SoCs.
He adds that the company would not showcase PCs with M3-series chips yet. The new lineup includes a bigger MacBook Air. Apple may also use the opportunity to introduce Mac Pro with its proprietary silicone SoC.
Otherwise, we can expect the usual from Apple at WWDC 2023. The company will introduce iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, which are expected to receive minor refreshments -- similar to iOS 16 and iPadOS 17. A similar story is expected with the upcoming macOS and TVOS. However, Gurman claims that the WatchOS's UI will be revamped completely.
