According to a report by AgWeek, a Gates-associated entity based in Kansas acquired the acres in Grafton, North Dakota, from Campbell Farms, a potato-growing operation headed by three brothers: Bill, Greg and Tom Campbell. The reported price was $13.5 million.

The acreage was transferred from the Campbells to Red River Trust, which has Peter Headley listed as trustee. Headley has been linked to Gates’ farmland purchases in the past, including heading Cottonwood Ag, which has the same Kansas address as Red River Trust.

Gates also owns 14,000 acres in Washington’s Columbia Basin that produces potatoes for McDonald’s french fries, which operates as 100 Circle Farms.

A 2021 LandReport.com story lists Gates’ farmland holdings at more than 240,000 acres.
