American Express Gold Card Reviews [2024] (2024)

The American Express® Gold Card is a good card that is worthwhile for people with good credit or better who are heavy spenders. Amex Gold provides rewards rates that are above the market average in addition to a welcome offer of 60,000 points for spending $6,000 in the first 6 months after opening an account.

Amex Gold provides a couple of other interesting perks, too. First of all, it gives you up to $120 per year in Uber Cash for Uber Eats orders (or Uber rides) in the U.S, when you add your card in your Uber account. You can also get up to $120 in credits each year for purchases from a list of dining partners, including Grubhub and select Shake Shack locations, when you enroll.

You’ll need to take full advantage of Amex Gold’s rewards and benefits for the card to be worth its $250 annual fee.

American Express Gold Card Review Highlights

New cardholders earn 60,000 points for spending $6,000 within 6 months. That’s worth roughly $402, depending on how you redeem. The average rewards card with points or miles gives 30,381 points/miles as an initial bonus.

Restaurant Rewards

4 points per $1 at restaurants worldwide. This is one of the highest earning rates available from a card for restaurant purchases and this rate also applies to takeout and delivery expenses in the U.S.

$0 Foreign Transaction Fee

Just make sure the merchants in your favorite international destinations accept Amex, if the Amex Gold Card’s 0% foreign fee is relevant to your situation.

Eligible purchases will be included in a Pay Over Time interest-accruing balance to be paid down over an extended period, up to the Pay Over Time Limit. Amex must approve transactions for Pay Over Time status, otherwise it must be paid in full each month by the payment due date.

No Preset Spending Limit

The Amex Gold’s limit varies based on each cardholder’s spending and payment habits as well as other factors.

$250 Annual Fee

Amex Gold still could be worth it if you get at least this much value from the card’s rewards and other perks each year.

Credit Needed
