Sponsorship for Citi Football U-9

Football is one of the most popular sports among Thai people. From Neilson research, 84% of Thai population has the love of this sport. Citi sees an opportunity to help Thai kids to get away from games or other less productive activities. Therefore, we organize the U9-Football Tournament, targeting kids under 9 years old. In 2019, there were more than 200 kids (16 teams to participates) participated in the program. A good contribution to the community project where we give fun and joy to kids and as well help them to develop team work and sportsmanship spirit.

Promoting Income Generating and Financial Skills for Urban Marginalized Youth Program

The 18-month program is a school-based intervention that provides interactive classroom training and activity-based learning on career aspiration, income generation, entrepreneurship and financial literacy to 600 youths. The program will broaden youth economic opportunities by setting them on the pathways to saving practice, exposure to vocational and trade skills and practice running business through Student Business Clubs. The theoretical learning and practical experience that the participating youths gained from this program will enhance their employability skills and positive financial behavior.

Community –Focused Financial Learning and Leadership Program

This 3 years project was designed to help reduce the household debt of low-income communities in Bangkok and nearby provinces. The project directly benefits 725 community members, where 100 of them are community leaders. The people in the communities will receive capacity building support in financial literacy, mentoring and counseling skills, as well as project design/management. Once trained, community leaders will use their newly developed skills to apply for project funding from various sources to continue project activities after the project concluded. The best practices booklet, with lessons learned and case studies will be given out to relevant stakeholders.

At-Risk Women Financial Literacy

"At-Risk Women Financial Literacy" is a workshop that has been educating women at risk in basic personal finance management since August 2008. The program has trained close to 2,800 women to date. Of the total, 85% continued to save regularly and budget their expenditures (after one year of receiving the training, from phase VI follow-up results).

School Bank

School Banks program has been implemented since November 2010 to provide means for marginalized students to save funds, developing positive attitudes towards saving, and cultivating basic financial skills. The entrepreneurship component was added in the third year in which students learned how to develop and operate small businesses using their savings from the school banks as investment funds. Now in its sixth year, the program has directly reached over 10,000 students from 13 schools in different regions of Thailand. As of June, 2015, the total savings from all schools is over US$162,000 and 50 business groups were created.

Literacy Improvements for Better Finance in Thailand: LIFT

From October 2013, the Citi Foundation has provided grants to conduct research projects under the name of "Literacy Improvements for Better Finance in Thailand: LIFT" to determine the current state of financial literacy and document best practices in financial literacy education throughout the country. The program has successfully engaged important stakeholders involved in Financial Literacy. This includes regulators, government banks, commercial banks, civil society, students and schools, labors and farmers. The research finding was unveiled and raised awareness of the importance and current issues of financial literacy in the country.

Sponsorship of the U-23 Thai National Soccer team

In 2015, Citi Thailand continued sponsorship of the U-23 Thai National Soccer team for SEA Games, in which they won the 2015 gold medal in Singapore, as part of our effort to build national pride through sport, and encourage active and healthy lifestyles among Thailand's youth. Citi Thailand commenced the sponsorship since 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar and extended through 2014 Asian Games in South Korea and Suzuki cup which the team also won Suzuki Cup last year.

Citi's Elephant Nursery

Citi's Elephant Nursery, a project run in partnership with the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation (GTAEF) and Anantara Resorts & Spas, was created to increase awareness of elephant conservation in Thailand. Citi's donations contributed to the construction of a new play area for the young elephants. Toys in the area are specially designed and selected to teach the young elephants how to have fun without learning dangerous play habits which could put trainers and visitors at risk. To date, several fund raising activities were organised to ensure sustainability of the elephants wellbeing. In the 10th Global Community Day, more than US$ 13,000 was donated to GTAEF from the charity run event. This new fund will go towards research of state-of-the-art electrically fenced roaming area and positive reinforcement training for the baby elephant.
