The story of the Centurion’s faith is found in the Bible, in the book of Matthew 8:5–13 and Luke 7:1–10. Here are some lessons that can be learned from the Centurion’s faith:
- Humility: The Centurion was a Roman soldier, but he humbly recognized Jesus’ authority and power, even though he himself was a person of authority. We can learn from his humility and recognize that we are not the center of the universe, but rather there is a higher power we can turn to.
- Faith: The Centurion demonstrated faith in Jesus’ ability to heal his servant from a distance, without even physically being present. He trusted that Jesus had the power to heal, and believed that he would. We can also learn to have faith in God and trust in His power to help us in difficult situations.
- Compassion: The Centurion cared deeply for his servant, and sought Jesus’ help to heal him. His compassion and concern for his servant’s well-being is an example for us to follow, to care for others and seek to help them when they are in need.
- Trust: The Centurion trusted in Jesus’ authority and power, and did not doubt that he could heal his servant. We too can learn to trust in Jesus and have faith in His ability to guide us and help us in our lives.
- Obedience: When Jesus offered to go to the Centurion’s home to heal his servant, the Centurion replied that he was not worthy of Jesus to come under his roof, and instead trusted that Jesus could heal his servant from a distance. He obeyed Jesus’ words, even when it may not have been the most convenient or expected way. We can learn to obey God’s commands and trust in His plan for our lives.
