A bad day at the lake is still better than a good day not at the lake. You know the best beaches and coves to go to. You have no patience for the guy who can't back his trailer into the water right. 4 Important Ways To Save Money Going Back To School (1)

Going back to school as a college student means many things. First off, there is the excitement of reuniting with your roommates and friends and catching up on the past three months. There is also the anticipation of new professors and of course meeting new people. However one aspect that most likely every single college student has in common is….worrying about money.

Obviously it is common knowledge that almost every college student is as broke as they come, and if they aren’t severely low in funds suspicions arise as to why and how they obtained their small fortune (kidding, sort of). Though with heavy course loads and other extracurricular activities it becomes hard to find time to squeeze a forty hour a week job into ones life, there are small but very significant ways to save money.

1. Don’t spend all your money in the first week/month of the semester. Save your money. This may sound like a common sense idea, however we all have experienced the back to school rush in which we want to go out and do all these cool things with our friends, see all the sites, etc. Make the conscious effort to spread your funds out and make them last, especially when that band you’ve always really wanted to see comes to town in November.

2. Cut out eating out as much as possible. Let’s mainly focus on COFFEE. Obviously coffee is the common staple for a student above anything else, but for almost $3.00 a cup multiple times a day six or seven days a week, that’s a good amount of money lost. Most students I have talked to say their biggest regret is spending money at the local Dunkin or Starbucks more than they need to and this is something even I am still working on. Instead of going to Starbucks multiple times a day, settle for the coffee provided in your dining hall or pool together some money with your roommates to buy a keurig. Trust me, by treating a Starbucks or its brand equivalent as a reward for yourself a couple times a week instead, it tastes better and benefits you more in the long run.

3. Be comfortable with saying you don’t have enough money for something. I don’t mean it’s not okay to go out with your friends on the weekend. What I mean is that if you know you are running low on funds and have a utility bill for your apartment coming up in a few weeks, it’s not the worst thing in the world to tell your friends you are going to stay in from time to time. We all have those friends who somehow are always able to go out for dinner and drinks and then some, which is great but it never hurts to step back and look ahead at what you might need to save up for in the long run.

4. If you are moving into an apartment, don’t buy cable. Plain and simple, use your Netflix or HBO Go account to get you through the year. You don’t need to pay an unnecessary monthly cable fee in any capacity.

Saving money is hard, but any little bit helps. If you are always thinking long term when it comes to your financials, ultimately you will save yourself a lot of unnecessary hassle.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

The people that spend their summers at the lake are a unique group of people.

Whether you grew up going to the lake, have only recently started going, or have only been once or twice, you know it takes a certain kind of person to be a lake person. To the long-time lake people, the lake holds a special place in your heart, no matter how dirty the water may look.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
