Hello and welcome back to day 29 of our 30 day course! If you’ve been with me since the beginning, congratulations. If you’re new here, welcome. Today we will be looking into the best ways to monetise your blog as a beginner. Let’s get into it.

The best ways to monetise your blog as a beginner are ads, affiliate marketing, and external offers. You can use these to make money even if your pageviews are still low if you know what you’re doing.

Here is everything you need to know to get monetising your blog today.

This is day twenty-nine of my 30-day writing series on how to make money writing online. You can find the other posts in this series, plus a list of all the resources listed in this series on theHow to Make Money Writing Online page.

How to Advertise on Your Blog

There are two ways to advertise on your blog: on-screen ads and paid promotion. As you are a new blogger, I’ll be focusing on the more accessible of the tow: on-screen ads.

How you put ads onto your site depends on your host. If you are using WordPress.com, you will need a paid plan to run ads on your website. You will do this through WordAds, which pays you based on how many people see your website. This doesn’t pay much at first, but will build as you grow.

If you have a self-hosted blog, then you have hundreds more options. Most bloggers like to use AdSense for its reputation and accessibility. This pays you based on views and clicks. You have to apply to use AdSense on your blog so make sure you meet their terms before applying. As with WordAds, the bigger your blog gets, the more profitable this will become.

If you do want to open yourself up to paid promotion, you are welcome to do this as well. Make sure to put your email address in the contact section of your blog and mention that you are open to paid promotions on the blog. You never know, someone could take you up on it.

How to Use Affiliate Marketing on Your Blog

An affiliate programme is a scheme where you can be paid for people buying products on your recommendation. It works by you placing an affiliate link on your blog, which tells the company that you referred that customer and you will receive a small commission.

There are loads of affiliate schemes out there, but Amazon is one of the most popular, due to its huge range of products. The best way to succeed at affiliate marketing on your blog is to recommend products you have actually used. For example, if you share your skincare routine, share an affiliate link to your favourite products at the end. If you review a book, let your readers find it on Amazon and earn a commission for it.

If you use affiliate marketing, it is important that you know how to legally disclose this. Every post containing affiliate links should have a clear disclaimer at the top of the page. Failure to comply could result in legal difficulty.

How to Make Money Using External Offers on Your Blog

External offers are things that you have created and sell outside of your blog. You can then use your blog to bring your readers’ attention to the products and make more money. Some examples of this include:

  • A small business or Etsy store.
  • A digital download store.
  • An eBook offer.
  • Your paid Email Newsletter.
  • The opportunity to adertise on your blog.

If you make a transaction outside of your blog, you can still use your blog to advertise it. Whether you make blog posts dedicated to the offer or simply integrate your offers into your regular schedule, your blog audience is a great place to advertise your own business – so take advantage of it.

Final Thoughts

Now that you know how to monestise your blog, you can really put your new blogging skills to good use. If things don’t come easily for you immediately, don’t give up. All you need is for one blog post to take off and your whole business could benefit from it. Come back tomorrow to finish the course on a high. We’re going to be talking about some of the mindset issues that hold new writers back and how to get over them to achieve your full potential, so you don’t want to miss it.
