According to the company, the name change from CenturyLink to Lumen Technologies is part of its effort to refocus its business. The company wants to better focus on a platform instead of just a service. That includes creating a platform that lets users link their smart devices, home security, internet and more.
Aside of the new branding, Lumen sports its own stock ticker (LUMN) as it groups the more profitable parts of what was traditionally CenturyLink away from the less profitable residential and small business services. At the opening of trading on on Friday, the company stock ticker will change from CTL to LUMN.
Lumen Technologies has sold its CenturyLink telecommunications operations in Tennessee and neighboring states to Apollo Global Management Inc. The $7.5 billion deal was announced in early August and includes all of Lumen's incumbent local exchange carrier operations in a 20-state region.
