Which came first mod or Blaze?
While MOD is the fastest-growing chain, Blaze Pizza is the second-fastest-growing and has been massively successful since being launched in 2011 by the founders of Wetzel's Pretzels.
In fast-casual pizza, three things are key: speed, taste, and customizability. MOD clearly beat Blaze on all three fronts. However, Blaze's addictive chocolate dessert won the chain some brownie points.
Blaze Pizza offers goat, ovalini mozzarella and vegan cheese while MOD Pizza offers asiago and dairy-free cheeses.
The chain was founded by Scott and Ally Svenson, who created a coffee chain in the United Kingdom that they sold to Starbucks in the late 1990s. Both companies are adding units so quickly it's difficult to keep up. MOD finished 2017 with 297 locations, while Blaze operates 230.
MOD Pizza LLC
The acronym "MOD" in the company's name stands for "Made on Demand." Restaurant trade publication QSR News has characterized the concept as the "Chipotle of the pizza industry." MOD Pizza offers individual, customizable pizzas made with organic dough using King Arthur Flour.
Mod Pizza has an interesting history.
They sold their company to Starbucks coffee in 1998.
Unlike an Italian restaurant, MOD Pizza allows you to make your own pizza. Whether you want meat, vegetables, extra cheese, or different sauces, MOD has them all. My favorite combination is mozzarella, red sauce, tomatoes, and garlic, topped with pesto drizzle.

Blaze's pizzas take such a short time to cook because they are baked in the oven at a high temperature and the crust is very thin. Even with this thin crust and quick baking time, their pizzas taste amazing! The crust can get a little burnt but the cheese is melted properly and the pizza always comes out hot.
Blaze Pizza has confirmed that it has the final elements in place to go public, a key step that brand leadership sees toward beginning to take a run at pizza's so-called Big Three of Domino's, Pizza Hut and Papa John's, which are all publicly traded now.
