Cheetos will be made in Connecticut as Frito-Lay announces $235 million expansion bringing 120 jobs to Killingly.
Although they're typically considered an American snack, Cheetos has production facilities in 22 different countries including Cyprus, Pakistan, Spain, and Poland.
In 1965 Frito-Lay became a subsidiary of The Pepsi-Cola Company, forming PepsiCo, the current owner of the Cheetos brand. In 2010, Cheetos was ranked as the top selling brand of cheese puffs in its primary market of the United States; worldwide the annual retail sales totaled approximately $4 billion.
Frito-Lay's manufacturing facility in Casa Grande, Arizona, mainly produces potato, corn and tortilla chips. It turns about 500,000 potatoes into potato chips every day. The facility is one of the most environmentally sustainable projects.
This is the first time that Cheetos will be manufactured by Frito-Lay in Connecticut. The building expansion is set to begin in spring 2022 and the project is expected to be complete in the second quarter of 2024.
