In 2021, the joint venture between China's Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) and General Motors (GM) reported revenue of 182 billion yuan, an increase of 2.8 percent compared to the previous year. SAIC-GM was established in 1997 in Shanghai.
While GM is technically an American car company, it actually sells more cars in China than it does in the US. On the surface, this makes the company look very exposed to the trade war, but surprisingly it is less than you would imagine.

America's most iconic automakers, such as Ford and General Motors, already make cars in China for Chinese customers in joint-venture factories.
