What did Jesse McCree do?
Overwatch's fan-favourite cowboy character Jesse McCree finally has a new name after Activision Blizzard committed to changing it in the wake of California's ongoing lawsuit alleging sexual harassment and a "frat boy" culture at the company.
Blizzard changing the hero's name from Jesse McCree to Cole Cassidy is due to the ongoing harassment suit brought against Activision Blizzard by the State of California.
The change comes after the character's namesake, Blizzard developer Jesse McCree, left the studio amidst a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard by the State Of California which alleges workplace sexual harassment and discrimination at the developer.
It has to do with Blizzard's ongoing lawsuit. The cowboy character was originally named McCree, after Blizzard game designer Jesse McCree, who was allegedly part of the “Cosby Suite” and was fired as a result of the allegations of sexual harassment against him.
Blizzard Entertainment says it will rename McCree, Overwatch's outlaw bounty hunter, after his real-life namesake, former game designer Jesse McCree, was let go from the studio in the wake of a sexual harassment and gender discrimination lawsuit filed against publisher Activision Blizzard.
The fact that Overwatch 2 will be free-to-play means this should be an easy enough transition, since no players need to pay for the new game.
In Overwatch lore, D.Va is Hana Song, a 19-year old former professional gamer going by her gamertag "D.Va".

Most notably is Overwatch's McCree, named after Jesse McCree, who was fired by Blizzard after a photo featuring him and others posing in the infamous “Cosby Suite” at BlizzCon 2013 circulated.
The Overwatch team recently announced that Jesse McCree's name was going to change following a sexual harassment and gender discrimination lawsuit against Blizzard. McCree was named after an employee within the company that was accused of predatory behavior, including hanging out in the "Cosby Suite" at BlizzCon.
Why do they want to change McCree name?
The developers are changing the name of McCree (known for the foreseeable future as “the cowboy hero”) amid the sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuit levied against Activision Blizzard and other reports of misconduct.
That includes former Blizzard Entertainment employee Jesse McCree, whose name was borrowed for Overwatch's gun-slinging cowboy hero.
