Following Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, multinational companies have withdrawn from Russia in staggering numbers. As of April 22, more than 700 U.S. companies have scaled back, suspended or exited their Russian businesses, including Starbucks, McDonald's and Pepsi, according to the Yale School of Management.

The Canton-based coffee and doughnut company is halting “all current development and investment in Russia,” amidst that country's invasion of Ukraine, a Dunkin' spokesperson said in a Thursday afternoon e-mail.
"Papa John's has suspended all corporate operations in Russia," the statement read. "It has ceased all operational, marketing and business support to, and engagement with, the Russian market, where all restaurants are owned by independent franchisees ... "
Subway has no corporate operations in Russia. There are approximately 450 franchised restaurants in Russia, which are all independently owned and operated by local franchisees and managed by an independent master franchisee.

In a recent announcement, Yum! Brands, Inc. (the restaurant group behind popular American fast food chains like KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell) updated international fans on its plans to remove franchise locations from Russia.
KFC is the most prolific American fast food brand in Russia with over around 1,000 premises across the country. That is followed by McDonalds with close to 847, and Burger King, which operates roughly 800 restaurants in Russia. There are also 130 Starbucks coffee shops and 50 Pizza Hut restaurants in Russia.
Eight years ago, Hilton opened its first hotel in Russia. Today, the company has 21 hotels open across the country, and has signed another 29 to open.

Starbucks store count in Russia 2021
The U.S. coffee chain Starbucks had 140 stores in Russia as of January 2021, six less than one year before. The company expanded its presence in the country between January 2015 and January 2020. That was the fifth-highest number of stores among countries in Europe.
