A brief review of the MGB's history provides an easy answer to what is considered the “best” MGB to buy: The cars from model years 1966 and 1967 get that accolade. They still carried the classic body style, highlighted by shiny bumpers and a pretty grille.

You should fit just fine. I'm 6-4 with a pretty balanced leg/torso ratio and I fit fine with at least an inch of spare headroom.
The MGB batteries are located behind the seats and tend to get neglected due to the effort required to access them. With the launch of the rubber bumper cars, MG modified the right hand battery compartment to accommodate a single modern type 079 12 volt battery.
