How much will the Nikola Badger cost?
Unlike the rest of the electric trucks coming to market, the Badger will be available as both a battery-electric vehicle that starts at $60,000 and as a hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle pickup with an EV battery pack that starts at $80,000. Nikola claims the ranges will be 300 and 600 miles respectively.
Pricing for the Tre BEV, Nikola's only battery electric vehicle at the moment, is not available on the company's website, but the $120,000 incentive is likely to make it competitive with comparable diesel trucks from a pricing standpoint.
On the 8th of June 2020, Nikola, through its founder—Trevor Milton—announced that the Nikola Badger electric pickup truck would be available for preorder on the 29th of June 2020.
The Badger is expected to go into production near the end of 2022.
The Nikola Badger, a pickup truck with either a fully battery-electric powertrain or a hydrogen fuel cell setup, is officially dead. Early depositors are supposedly receiving full refunds.
The vehicles (two, we assume) will be used at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. It's a major milestone for Nikola, which finally has reached the stage of production and sales of all-electric trucks, while still working on the hydrogen fuel cell trucks that are promised to be launched in 2023.
Hydrogen fuel is much more efficient than gasoline, but it's also four times more expensive, roughly equivalent to about $16 a gallon.
Publicly traded shares in Nikola dropped to around US$12 after falling from over $65 in mid-2020, when its market valuation had exceeded that of the Ford Motor Company. Like the much larger Tesla, Inc., the company is named in honor of Nikola Tesla, but is not related to the inventor.
Tesla is an older company, producing billions in sales as well as bottom-line profits. Nikola doesn't plan to generate cash flow for a few more years. But Nikola has the upper hand on Tesla in one respect: stock market valuation. Its shares are more valuable at this point in Nikola's history than Tesla's were.

Of the 510 orders, customer purchase orders for 134 trucks have been issued to Nikola dealers using California HVIP (Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project).
Illinois-based trucking company Heniff Transportation Systems announced this week it had placed an order for 10 Nikola Tre trucks to be delivered in the first half of 2022. If this initial order goes to plan, the company also has an option to purchase an additional 90 examples of the trucks for a total of 100.
