First years; lower campus res' are the best. They are right near the Jammie shuttle bus stop, which takes you to Upper Campus (where most of you will have your lectures). All the parties also usually start on Lower campus, so it makes getting to the party a million times easier.
UG students: Any students following the regular programme of study who fail three or more courses in the first semester of their first year of study will be transferred to the extended programme of study in the second semester of their first year of study.
Usually, you will start out in a first-tier residence (full catering), move on to a second-tier residence (senior catering or self-catering) and later, stay in third-tier accommodation (semi-autonomous self-catering). Each residence has its own history and traditions, but they all try to provide a great experience.
About UCT'S residence system
UCT has a three-tier residence system that provides different services, governance and management at each tier.
GAP funding is considered for those applicants that did not meet the NSFAS financial eligibility criteria of gross family income under R350 000. UCT provides financial assistance to eligible students in the form of a tuition bursary of between 20% to 40% and a loan offer.
Private residents - R25,200 paid monthly on an annual basis for accredited properties. Hostel accommodation - R33 000 per year. Annual NCV (Including PLP) - 10 payments per month. R191 Semester - 5 monthly payments during the semester.
UCT awards scholarships each December to graduating students who have performed exceptionally well. Recipients are identified by the university and an application form is not required.

First-class pass
An upper second is 70–74%; a lower second is 60–69%; and a third is 50–59%. An S means you failed.

For applicants writing the National Senior Certificate we use an Admission Points Score (APS), a Faculty Points Score (FPS), Medical Points Score (MPS) and a Weighted Points Score (WPS) to assess your performance at school. The 3 scores are described in detail below.
On arrival please bring four passport photographs, which are needed for meal tickets, your card with personal details and sometimes for orientation. Do not bring extra furniture, but do bring your own bedding (duvet, duvet cover, sheet, pillow, pillow case) and towels.
If you reside in a UCT residence, see the Student Housing Office for a proof of residence document. If you do not live in a UCT residence, you can update your term residential address on PeopleSoft and request a proof of registration letter. The letter will reflect your term address.
First-tier residences provide accommodation for undergraduate men and women students, who are usually under the age of 21. These residences provide students with up to three meals a day in a dining hall. Some buildings have double rooms.
The amounts due are: Tuition cost initial payment R30,000 (or the full fee where this is lower than the initial payment), plus if applicable; • Residence (catering) initial payment R37,000, or • Residence (self-catering) initial payment R24,500 This is not the full cost. Final payment is due 30 June 2022.

Application process
Current university students in residences can now use an housingonline.uct.ac.za facility to submit their applications. These applications are open from 1 June to 31 July 2022. Application outcomes will be finalised by 30 October 2022.
UCT is by far the most expensive, requiring students to pay R24,000 before stepping foot into a lecture hall.

Application Fees
An application fee must be paid for every application. UCT students and graduates, as well as Semester Study Abroad (SSA) applicants, are exempt from the application fee unless applying to a Graduate School of Business (GSB) programme.
The minimum requirement for admission to undergraduate diploma study is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) as certified by Umalusi with an achievement rating of 3 (Moderate Achievement, 40-49%) or better in 4 recognised NSC 20-credit subjects.
