Mega-banks often use your money to fund projects that may not be in line with your values— and nearly 40 of them are financially supporting the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), including US Bank, JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and more.
Between 2017 - 2020, Dakota Access Pipeline has paid more than $113 million in property taxes including: North Dakota: $27+ million. South Dakota: $17.8+ million. Iowa: $68+ million.
In August 2016, the joint venture of Enbridge (75%) and Marathon Petroleum (25%) agreed to purchase a 49% stake in Dakota Access, LLC for $2 billion. The deal was completed in February 2017 after the final easem*nt was granted.

The Dakota Access Pipeline (or DAPL) was built by Energy Transfer Partners to transport crude oil from the Bakken field in North Dakota to Illinois.
During construction, the DAPL created approximately 8,000 to 12,000 jobs for highly skilled workers. These workers also benefited the local economy by using hotels/motels, restaurants, shops and other services. The economic impact of all of this work is estimated to be over $129 million per year.

This lines up with an industry trend: Oil and gas companies are exporting 8.4 million barrels of crude oil and refined fuels every single day. That's up nearly threefold from a decade ago, and an amount equal to 42 percent of our consumption.
The Dakota Access Pipeline is a 1,172-mile underground 30" pipeline transporting light sweet crude oil from the Bakken/Three Forks production area in North Dakota to Patoka, Illinois. Safely operating since June of 2017, the Dakota Access Pipeline now transports 570,000 barrels of oil per day.

Construction on the northern U.S. segment of the proposed KXL pipeline alone would directly disturb about 15,500 acres and require the construction of hundreds of new roads. Building KXL could result in the crushing of endangered American burying beetles.

In the states of Montana, South Dakota, and Nebraska alone, the pipeline would cross 1,073 rivers, lakes and streams, not to mention tens of thousands of acres of wetlands.
Since 1986 pipeline accidents have spilled an average of 76,000 barrels per year or more than 3 million gallons. This is equivalent to 200 barrels every day. Oil is by far the most commonly spilled substance, followed by natural gas and gasoline.
The Keystone XL pipeline, a privately funded project, would double the current capacity of oil transported in the U.S. per day, provide the U.S. with a more stable source of crude oil, and significantly increase employment and capital within America.
It says Line 5 supplies 65 percent of the propane used in the Upper Peninsula and 55 percent for the entire state and also says that 30 percent of the crude oil from Line 5 ends up at the Marathon refinery in Detroit to be turned into gasoline for Michigan motorists.
