Do MasterClass people get paid?
Instructors receive a one-time payment and a revenue cut. In 2017, a source reported MasterClass teachers get at least $100,000 per course plus a 30% revenue cut. In 2018, Bloomberg wrote instructors get a guaranteed sum, plus up to a 25% cut. However, in a later interview, Rogier shared contracts vary by individuals.
How much does MasterClass cost? The annual membership is $180 and provides unlimited access to all classes and new classes as they launch. All MasterClass memberships include access to our mobile and TV apps, high-definition videos, and downloadable class workbooks.
The short answer is, probably. Whether you're looking to grow your acting skills with an online class from Natalie Portman or better your creative writing skills from a Margaret Atwood lecture, there is bound to be at least one MasterClass of the 100+ classes that are bound to teach you something.
It now focuses on selling annual, all-access subscriptions. As with other such services, like Netflix, that means an ever-growing library to keep subscribers around. If “Aaron Sorkin teaches screenwriting” is good, one viewing should suffice. MasterClass's library has grown from 34 to 51 in 2018.
The company has also spent heavily on marketing and on instruction. In 2017, the Hollywood Reporter said that most MasterClass instructors are paid at least $100,000 up front and receive a share of at least 30% of the revenue; it seems likely that those numbers have increased over the last five years.

Can I buy a single MasterClass?
With such popular instructors and highly rated courses, it's understandable that some might wonder if there's a way to just buy a single class without subscribing to the service. Unfortunately, that's not an option at this time. Masterclass only offers subscriptions that renew annually unless you cancel them.

David Rogier is the CEO and cofounder of MasterClass—the online-learning platform where you can learn skateboarding from Tony Hawk, filmmaking from Martin Scorsese, and photography from Annie Leibovitz.
MasterClass makes money by charging students a subscription fee for the ability to gain unlimited access to their courses. The package is called All Access Pass and comes in at $180 a year (or $15 per month). Separately, customers can also pay a one-time fee of $90 to access one single class.
Sources familiar with the company's deals say instructors make about $100,000 up front when they begin working with MasterClass and receive 30 percent of the revenue their classes generate. But money isn't the sole draw for instructors, says Rogier, who declines to comment on the contracts.
Although these deals are not openly discussed, there are reports that the instructors receive around $100,000 up-front before they do any work, along with 30% of the revenue generated from their classes.
