How long do Vanguard pending orders take?
Why is my regular order still pending? For buy orders set up as part of a regular payment, both a pending payment and pending investment order is created 8 business days before a client's nominated payment date. The order then takes 2-3 days to go through once we collect the money.
Whenever we receive a buy order from you it will show as 'pending' for up to 8 business days. This includes buy orders that you've set up as part of a regular payment. This is part of the fund dealing process while your order completes and settles, so don't worry if your deal is showing as 'pending' for a few days.
A transaction requested before the close of regular trading on the NYSE on a business day will receive a trade date of the current day. However, a transaction requested after market close on a business day will receive a trade date of the next business day.

It can take 3 to 7 days for your money to become available for investing. During that time, you can explore products such as ETFs (exchange-traded funds) or mutual funds to decide which investments are right for you.
Prices. Like Vanguard mutual funds, orders for other companies' mutual funds execute at that business day's closing price as long as they're received before the cutoff time.
If your stop or limit price hasn't been reached, your order will remain pending until there's a buyer or seller willing to trade at your specified price.

After the trade: Changing your mind
You can cancel a trade online through the Order status link or by calling us. We'll do our best to meet your request but can't guarantee that a given trade can be changed or canceled, especially during volatile markets.
Vanguard Cash Reserves Federal Money Market Fund and Vanguard Federal Money Market Fund: You could lose money by investing in the Fund. Although the Fund seeks to preserve the value of your investment at $1.00 per share, it cannot guarantee it will do so.
For my IRA account it usually says “In Progress” for 24-48 hours. As best as I can determine it executes that day at the fund price at close, just takes a day or two to settle funds. You are conducting a transaction during a pretty busy trading period. It might take them longer than usual.
What is better Fidelity or Vanguard?
Fidelity and Vanguard both do a good job keeping costs fairly low, but Fidelity has a slight edge overall. Both brokers charge zero commission for stock and ETF trades, but Fidelity charges $0.65 per contract on options trades, while Vanguard charges $1 per contract for customers with less than $1 million in assets.

When does settlement occur? For most stock trades, settlement occurs two business days after the day the order executes, or T+2 (trade date plus two days). For example, if you were to execute an order on Monday, it would typically settle on Wednesday.
Can you buy other securities with unsettled funds? While your funds remain unsettled until the completion of the settlement period, you can use the proceeds from a sale immediately to make another purchase in a cash account, as long as the proceeds do not result from a day trade.

Like all mutual funds, Vanguard funds trade once a day at the close of the market. The net asset value NAV is recalculated, and this is when shares are bought and sold. Unlike stocks that can trade almost instantaneously, mutual funds have a slight delay, but they are still one of the most liquid types of investments.
Your order may first go to Waiting status if it is reviewed by an Investment Representative. The status then changes to Open until the Net Asset Value per Share (NAVPS) is provided by the fund company.
