How did Korea become free from Japan?
Suh Sang Il established the Korean Independence League (KIL) in January 1915. Former Emperor Gojong (Gwangmu) died in Seoul on January 21, 1919. Korean nationalists formally declared Korea's independence from the government of Japan on March 1, 1919.
Japan fought wars to conquer Korea, but after WWII, Japan lost all power over it, after which the US and the Soviets divided it along the 38th parallel. Korea was split into North and South Korea when Japan was forced to surrender all of their colonies to the Soviets and the United States after losing WWII.
Instead, Japan tried to seek out Russian assistance to end the war, in which Japan schemed to drive a wedge between the Soviet Union and the United States. This delayed Japan's surrender, allowing the Soviets to enter into the war, which in turn resulted in the division of Korea.
Gojoseon was the first Korean kingdom, located in the north of the peninsula and Manchuria, later alongside the state of Jin in the south of the peninsula. The historical Gojoseon kingdom was first mentioned in Chinese records in the early 7th century BC.
In 1592 Japan's Hideyoshi regime invaded Chosŏn Korea (1392-1910). Later, Ming China sent an army to Korea to repel the Japanese invaders and, as a result, the war evolved into a major international conflict.
After the end of World War II, the United States Army entered the southern part of the Korean peninsula, demobilizing the Japanese imperial army and sending Japanese soldiers, officials, and settlers back to Japan. The Red Army occupied northern Korea and completed a similar task.
In China, Japan is called Rìběn, which is the Mandarin pronunciation for the characters 日本.
Japanese colonial rule (1910-1945) was a contradictory experience for Koreans. On the one hand, Japanese colonialism was often quite harsh.
Both analyses demonstrated genetic evidence of the origin of Koreans from the central Asian Mongolians. Further, the Koreans are more closely related to the Japanese and quite distant from the Chinese.
Japan and South Korea are neighbors, and they are both main allies of the United States in East Asia. Despite this, the relationship between the two states has greatly deteriorated in recent years, characterized by strong mutual distrust and a number of disputes.
Who invaded Korea first?
Overview. In 1592, with an army of approximately 158,000 troops, Toyotomi Hideyoshi launched what would end up being the first of two invasions of Korea, with the intent of conquering Joseon Korea and eventually Ming China.
The name Korea derives from the name Goryeo. The name Goryeo itself was first used by the ancient kingdom of Goguryeo, which was considered a great power of East Asia during its time, in the 5th century as a shortened form of its name.
Since the population diverged, the present-day Han Chinese, Japanese and Korean populations have built their own gene pools and formed distinct genetic makeups. This means that individual ethnicity of the three East Asian groups is distinguishable in genetics if personal genome data are available.

They chose it because it divided the country approximately in half but would place the capital Seoul under American control. No experts on Korea were consulted.
Korea was annexed by Japan in 1910 and liberated in 1945 at the end of the second world war. The US and the Soviet Union agreed to partition the Korean peninsula into two occupation zones.
North Korea's inability or refusal to pay its debts to Japanese traders also reinforced popular Japanese disdain for North Korea. Japan–North Korea relations turned more antagonistic in the late 1980s. The two governments did not maintain diplomatic relations and had no substantive contacts.
