How common is bore scoring 997?
While cylinder bore scoring has been an issue on a relatively small percentage of 996 and 997 models, it isn't a universal problem.
Change your engine oil once a year or every 3-5k miles. Have an engine oil analysis performed by SPEEDiagnostix at every engine oil change. Utilize a high-quality boutique type of synthetic engine oil such as Joe Gibbs Driven DT series or Motul 8100 X-Cess.
Unfortunately, any engine with a hypereutectic engine block can suffer from cylinder bore scoring, not just the M96/M97 engine used in Porsche Boxster, Cayman, and 911 models.
Change oil at the recommended intervals – It's important to change your car's engine oil every 6 months or 5,000 miles, preferably with Driven DT40 or DI40 as these oils are formulated with increased levels of Moly additives that most oils do not have, which in turn helps to protect the cylinder walls.

The 997 generation Porsches saw a run from 2004 to 2012. In that, the production run was split between the 997.1 (2004-2008) and 997.2 generation (2009-2012) 911s. Firstly, the 997 brought back the original round headlights instead of the disfigured ones found in the 996.

Porsche has been at the center of a recent controversy due to IMS (intermediate shaft) bearing failure in some 997 production cars, but recent data shows that there may not be as many problems as initially thought.
The cost of a IMS Retrofit replacement bearing and labour for installation is usually more than $4,000 but can be done in conjunction with the clutch. This is a small investment compared to the cost of rebuilding or replacing the entire engine.
