Can you bring water into MoMA?
You can purchase food and water once inside, but the food is restricted to certain areas. over a year ago. There is a cafe at MoMa, but one cannot take any food or beverages into the exhibit halls.
Scooters, skateboards, rolling bags, and all items over 11 × 17 × 5” [28 × 43 × 13 cm] are not permitted in the Museum. All bags will be inspected upon arrival. Please wear backpacks on the front of your chest or carry them to the side. Booking your timed entry tickets in advance is highly recommended.
You may bring a laptop, notebooks, notes, paper, pencils, a camera, digital media, and cell phones. Cell phones must be silenced and may not be used on the sixth floor, including in reading rooms, hallways, offices, or bathrooms. Cell phones may only be used in the Cullman lobby and other public spaces.
How much time should I expect to spend at the museum? The new MoMA is definitely larger, with 30 percent more gallery space. If you want to see everything, budget a solid four or five hours — and you'll still be moving fast past many works.
The Museum reserves the right to refuse entry to any visitor carrying the following prohibited items: Large bags, luggage, and musical instruments. Glass containers, jars, aerosol cans, and liquids other than water.

If you prefer a quieter museum experience, we recommend coming after 11:30 AM. On Fridays the museum is free to enter from 4 PM - 9 PM, which is when you should not go as the museum is always crowded and you won't get to enjoy the exhibits much. However, Friday middays (12 PM - 4 PM) has the least crowd at the museum.
What is the best time to visit MoMA?
When is the best time to visit MoMA in NYC? To avoid crowds and enjoy artworks at your own pace, it is best to visit the museum during the early hours, between 10.30 PM to 1 PM or in the late afternoons, after 3 PM.
A MoMA rep has also told us that average wait times for members on weekdays is 2-3 hours and 4-5 hours for general public ticket holders. The wait increases on the weekends by at least one hour.
Excellent Museum . A "Must visit" in every respect, but will take at least three visits to cover every aspect of the Museum. Very spacious, airy and well lit. Well organised,with superb exhibits catering for every taste in Art, Design and Sculpture, from Medieval armour to American contemporary Art.
MoMA is smaller in size and takes around three hours to explore fully. On the other hand, the Met Museum is much larger and can keep you engaged for more than five hours. If you are short on time but want the satisfaction of having visited a Museum in New York, we suggest you opt for MoMA.
Museum Opening Hours
So during the summer, MOMA has better hours, but the rest of the year, the Met has better hours. Both museums are popular so the best time to go will be during the week in the mornings. Since MOMA is a smaller museum, it will feel more crowded than the Met.
The answer is yes! You are allowed to bring water bottles into the Met, but there are a few things to keep in mind. First, all liquids must be sealed and cannot be larger than three ounces. You are also not allowed to bring any food or drink into the museum's galleries.
Standard-size backpacks are allowed. All bags, purses, and backpacks larger than 8" h x 8" w x 5" d must be carried by hand. To ensure the safety of the collection, the museum does not permit visitors to carry bags on their backs in the galleries.
The Met has very strict policies regarding bags and luggage. Backpacks, packages, and large umbrellas must be checked at the coat-check facility. Oversized backpacks and luggage (including carry-on bags) cannot be brought inside the museum or checked at coat-check, so be sure to leave these at home!

You'll probably need 3-5 hours just to see the permanent collection, so take advantage of the many resting spots – found in just about every room – which can give your feet a break and let you take in the surrounding atmosphere.
