Home of numerous noteworthy institutions such as Harvard and M.I.T., education in Massachusetts has never been anything to scoff at.
A recent WalletHub study reports that the Massachusetts public school system is the best in America.
The study compared and ranked public school systems from across all 50 states and Washington D.C. The quality and safety of the states’ public schools were used as key parameters during the creation of the study.
WalletHub said, “the quality of public school systems varies widely from state to state and is often a question of funding. Public elementary and secondary education money usually flows from three.”
Public education funding typically flows from the federal, state and local governments.
Massachusetts was reported to have the sixth-highest funding amongst states and the District of Columbia.
“Some researchers have found that more resources — or taxes paid by residents — typically result in better school-system performance,” said WalletHub.
The study ranked the commonwealth first in Math and Reading test scores, Massachusetts students were also reported to be the least threatened or prone to injury.
The average salary for Massachusetts teachers is also the highest amongst states at $82,349 a year, with some teacher’s salaries stretching over $100,000.
Four other New England states topped the list, with Connecticut at second, New Hampshire fifth, Vermont tenth and Rhode Island eleventh.
