Reading is one of my all time favorite activities. A well written book takes me down the rabbit hole of imagination, whimsy, and the numerous possibilities that the protagonist (or antagonist) of each story is dealing with. Well written blogs make me feel the same way. Especially in the personal finance space. I’m constantly rooting for the blogger who is paying off debt, earning more, and trying to change their lives. So, what on earth does Ikea have to do with any of that? Actually, a lot. Stay with me and I’ll break it down. And, I’ll share why you want blog to be like Ikea.

In order for me to support my blogging activities, I may receive monetary compensation or other types of remuneration for my endorsem*nt, recommendation, testimonial and/or link to any products or services from this blog. Please read my disclosurehere.*

Ikea

Is a store that is near and dear to many people’s hearts. In fact, it’s not hard to imagine that almost every single person reading this post has done the following:

  • Gotten turned around and lost in Ikea. Resulting in hours of wandering and numerous items purchased.
  • Eaten an inexpensive Scandinavian meal before setting off to get lost in the store.
  • Purchased a piece of furniture that you’ve miraculously put together with only 3 screws missing. Those screws were unnecessary…weren’t they?

Basically, when you go to Ikea you have a full range of experiences and emotions that everyone who goes to Ikea has experienced. And, if you’re focused on blogging well, your blog should create a certain type of experience that the resonates with its readers.

Getting Lost

In the story that is. Share links to stories that connect with each blog post that you’ve shared. You want your readers to settle in and read for awhile while they visit your site. Share not only the practical stuff, but also authentic glimpses of your personality.

Intrigue your readers and get them engaged. Encourage comments, share different types of content such as a short podcast episodes, and guest posts that reel your readers in.

Provide Value

Let’s be clear, I hate the phrase “provide value” but there is truth in the idea that the more:

  • Information that educates and excites your reader
  • Free resources and community-Similar to the inexpensive yummy food that you find at Ikea, you want readers leaving your website with their plates “full.”

Answer your reader’s questions-even if you get side-tracked. People appreciate that attention to detail and customer service. Show your readers that you care about their experience on your website. And work tirelessly to improve your reader’s experience in your corner of the internet.

Offer plenty of options (blog posts) for people to read and approach your blog like a buffet. Share different types of content within your niche, that leaves your readers wanting more.

Make Your Readers’ Lives Easier

Most people shop at Ikea because the prices are low and the items are typically fairly easy to put together. Ikea has cornered the market in addressing people’s furniture needs for less, while managing to be somewhat fashionable at the same time. Become the blogger who has the answers…for the people that love the content that you share.

And, always remember to dare to be you. Break the rules, or don’t. Just commit to sharing your story and you’ll connect with the people who need what you’re sharing.

If this is weird to wrap your head around, then I highly recommend checking out the following course: Elite Blog Academy. I was pretty lucky that I took this course several years ago and it has played a huge part in helping me to understand the following:

  • Branding
  • Content

And, the list goes on. It also doesn’t hurt that it has an incredible Affiliate Program that helps previous student share their EBA experience (and make some money).
