Why I Got Fired After My 90 Day Probationary Period ! (2)

Stating a new job is never easy. There’s nerves and new responsibilities involved and this can cause numbing anxiety. But for those of you who don’t know, every employer gives new employees a “trial” period of 90 days known as the Initial Probationary Period. The initial probationary period is essentially the first 90 days of employment where an employer is able to assess your capabilities to fulfill the requirements of the job.

For most of us who make it to the 90th day of employment, we are then given an Initial Probationary Evaluation by our immediate supervisor to assess whether or not we have done well and can maintain employment with the company. In an ideal world, if you bust your ass and are phenomenal, you will more than likely be kept on the team.

But what about those of us who are let go from the company and essentially terminated after your first 90 days? Most employers won’t fire an employee after 90 days if they still have room for improvement. An employer might offer constructive criticism in areas that need improvement and give an employee an additional month or so to get it together.

But what if you’re not one of the lucky ones and are cut from the team immediately? Most people might not know why this happened and thought they were doing a good enough job. Well…… hate to break it to you, but maybe you weren’t. Today, we’re here to break down several reasons why you got fired after your 90 day probationary period at your new job.

1) Cannot Fulfill The Job Responsibilities

  • The reason your company hired you in the first place was because they believed you possessed the skills to get the job done. Fast forward 3 months later, if all you’ve done is make a mess of everything, then let’s just say the cards aren’t looking in your favor. Not being able to provide a job well done is a no no and could cost you your job. To avoid this, if you need help and assistance, don’t be afraid to seek help where needed such as additional on-the-job training.

2) Cannot meet deadlines

  • The work environment is very much a deadline driven space, which means if you’re working on a projects that have specified due dates and you’re constantly dropping the ball for your team, this could be another reason you might get the cut. Being able to meet deadlines is important and demonstrates that you are able to work well under pressure, which is something employers are looking for. Mastering your time management skills is the remedy to this problem.

3) Disrespectful to colleagues

  • Treat other the way you would want to be treated. That’s a pretty simple statement, isn’t it? Well, a large majority of employees don’t always get along with their colleagues, and honestly that’s okay. Not everyone does. Not everyone has to get along, but everyone MUST respect one another. Employees tend to get terminated after their probationary period if they just don’t seem to mesh well with the other employees of the company or their team, and are just outright disrespectful. If there is any negativity interjecting a preexisting space, the solution is to remove that force. Hence, termination.

4) Constant Careless Errors

  • Human error is inevitable. Mistakes happen. But learning from your mistakes and avoiding them from happening again demonstrates growth. Constantly making the same error over and over again, even after receiving constructive criticism from your boss shows that you are not internalizing the information and could care less. Make sure to improve your attention to detail and take your job seriously.

5) No Respect for Authority

  • We’ve all heard it before, that no one likes working for “the man” or having a boss. Guess what…. if you ain’t got your own business rest assure you’ll be answering to someone until the day you retire. Whether or not you are head over heels for the CEO or your immediate supervisor or hate their guts, it is imperative to show respect to those who are authority figures. It’s all about politics in the workplace. Now, we’re not saying you have to kiss anyone’s ass, but be sure to reciprocate the level of respect you would like to receive.
