Which Generation Reads the Most? (2024)

Have you ever wondered which generation reads the most?

Out of Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, Baby Boomers and the Silent Generation, which one is the most likely to turn to a good book?

Millennials may be renowned for their tech obsession, but it turns out they are also the generation reading the most.

A new infographic by Best By The Numbers* explores the reading habits of the five generations and some of their insights may surprise you.

Although all generations like to read, there are some important differences in what and how they're reading. Key highlights of the infographic include:

  • Since the coronavirus, Gen Z (ages 5-25) have increased their reading more than the other generations.
  • Not only do Millennials (ages 26-40) read the most, they're also the most likely to visit a library.
  • Print books are still preferred across all generations although everyone prefers to read news online.
  • While Baby Boomers (ages 56-75) and the Silent Generation (ages 76+) find their books from bestseller lists, Gen Z find them on social media.
  • Gen X (ages 41-55) read the most news online each day, closely followed by Millenials.

Check out the infographic below for more insights into the reading habits of the different generations.
