When did you tell people (friends etc) that you'd bought a house? | Mumsnet (2024)

@Bluntness100

As soon as offer accepted. I can’t understand keeping it a secret. In fact we told before, ie putting an offer in.

But that’s a different piece of news. Saying ‘I’ve offered on a house’ or ‘I’ve had an offer accepted on a house’ is very different, and much more provisional, to saying ‘I’ve bought a house.’ Sales fall through.

We had an offer accepted last November. We had to pull out just before exchange when our surveyor discovered a major issue that would have made the house unsellable. A year after that initial acceptance, we’ve only just moved in to an entirely different house. In the interim, we put in two other offers.
