What Is Fire Science?
As the name suggests, fire science is the study of fire. Fire is a combination of oxygen, heat, and combustible fuel. When you focus on the science of fire, you can learn about fire behavior, fire prevention, firefighting, and fire or arson investigation. Many fire safety professionals have a degree in fire science.
Do I Need a Fire Science Degree To Be a Firefighter?
If you gain a bachelor’s degree or master’s, you will have more opportunities for leadership positions in fire safety and prevention. However, in Connecticut, a candidate is not required to earn a post-secondary level of education. Instead, an entry-level position requires you to be 18-years old or older, have an average or higher capacity for adult learning, a valid IAFF/IAFC Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) card, and EMT training and certification.
What Other Degrees Will Prepare Me To Work in Fire Safety?
While Goodwin University does not offer a bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, we offer a bachelor’s degree in Public Safety and Security. As you work through our program, you’ll gain the necessary skills and knowledge in risk reduction, investigation report writing, and science. In addition, you’ll be able to tailor your degree by selecting electives that will prepare you for your career goals and accomplishments.
