What are the differences between IGCSE and AP? In the short term, AP is an advanced placement program organized by the College Board and the test will be sent to the American Educational Testing Institute for scoring.

The content is quite intensive, equivalent to the first year of a university program. AP will be studied for 1 year for each subject. Normally, students will choose 3 subjects related to the subject they will choose to take university entrance exams. Students in grade 10 can apply for AP if they feel qualified.

Meanwhile, IGCSE is a 2-year International High School program for students in grade 9-10 managed by Cambridge, a solid foundation for further studies such as A-level or IB.

Assessment scale

The scale of AP subjects is from 1 to 5 points, of which 3 points are satisfactory for most universities. AP exam takes place only once in May every year. Freelance candidates can register for the exam at international schools that offer AP exams for their students. However, the list of exam subjects will change from year to year, as the school’s students are not enrolled in that subject. To be sure, you must contact the schools that are offering the AP exam from February.

The scale used for assessment in the IGCSE program is from A* to G. The score generally accepted by schools must be C or above. At the end of the program, students will take an exam organized by CIE (Cambridge International Examinations) 2 times a year, May-June and October-November. Freelance candidates can register for the exam at the British Council. Now you know what are the differences between IGCSE and AP.
