Apple Watches are not considered medical devices and therefore cannot be bought with FSA funds. Even if a doctor says it's a medical necessity there's nothing that states Apple Watch is a medical device. There are other things doctors have used for years prior to an Apple Watch being on the market. If you have a medical condition that requires monitoring of some sort your doctor should not be telling you that an Apple Watch is the way to monitor you. There aren't any solutions other than to pay for the Apple Watch with your own money and not FSA funds.

So you are right on the heart monitoring and ECG but based on what I read it was "cleared" by the FDA and not "approved." I thought they didn't have to get approval for the blood oxygen measurement. However, I could be wrong.

FSA is flex spending account. This is usually money that can only be used for medical/dental/health purposes that you put into an account from your workplace health insurance. Some places have you pay for it with your own money and then you send in a receipt and you get a reimbursem*nt. It sounds like the OP sent a receipt for the Apple Watch and it was denied for reimbursem*nt.

No, they approved it and I believe they did have to get the same for the Blood Oxygen. Thanks, didn't use that at work prior to retirement, came in too late.

But I agree with your assessment regarding reimbursem*nt, devices for monitoring were available prior to the watch, I have a pulse ox device that was far less cost than the watch. Don't know about the ECG.
